Default Same size, staggered size, or different sizes for tires

I was looking to get a new set of chrome C5 wheels. Now I am just wondering what size to get. Ebay has a lot of 17s in front 18s in back to choose from. I don't know if that staggered fittment will look good on a TA or not. Also with that you can't rotate the tires. On cartalk.com the writers say that rotating the tires on a high performace vehicle isn't that good of an idea due to cost and poor handling right after rotation.

The other option is to go with 18's all the way around. Should I get 245s in the front and 275s out the back, or keep the same size all the way around? My thoughts are the 245s in the front wont grab all the ruts in the road and the 275 should provide enough traction. Should I get 245s or 275s if I keep the sizes the same?

Thanks for your input.
Chris

I guess the answer depends most on how you want to use the car. It makes a big difference if you want a drag car, show car, daily driver, closed course racer, open road racer, or autocross. You'll probably get more response if you are more specific about your intended use(s). There are people on LS1Tech from all of these...

I have 17X8.5 front and 18X9.5 back on my TA and like them.

I wouldn't put a 17" diameter in front and an 18" in the rear. If anything I'd stick with a 17" or 18" all around and do a wider wheel in the rear to accommodate a wider tire. A 245 will mount well on an 8" wide wheel while a 275 will need a 9" I believe. A 245 is slightly narrow though even for the front. The WS6/SS cars had a 275 up front from the factory.

It would be for my daily driver. I would like to slowly turn it into a show car.

Jargan04: do you have any pic of your car in profile shot to see how it looks with a staggered fitment?

Question

my question is if you were to lower the width in the front of an SS/WS6 car to say a 255-265 to decrease the play you get from having such wide tires up front would this size play alright with a 9.5 rim????

i have some pics of my 17/18 combo on the webpage in my sig. but my opinion would be do 18's all around, but get 9.5" up front and 10.5" in the rear. stick with a 275 up front, and 295-315 in the rear. it will look great. the cars i have seen with the 245's up front look wimpy, and too narrow. the wide rears look killer and the lip on the rear rims will look sweet.
