Default 275 or 305 drag radial??/

ok is it really worth getting like say a 305 or 315 drag radial??? i am either going to get a 275/40 and mount them on my rims now or get a 305/35 and mount them on some 18's. are there any benefits to a wider drag radial??

more contact patch which equals better traction..however, if the sidewall is realy thin on the 18's it won't hook as well as a 275/40...plus 18+" rims usually give wheel hop

well i have american racing rebels on my car now. they only make them in a 17x9 or 18x10. but i can get some zr1's brand new 17x9 and 17x11 for almost the same cost as two brand new 18x10 rebels. but then of course i have to get some tires for the 17x9's. i just dont know what to do. here are my options

16x8 stock rims with 255-50-16 cost $550
17x9 and 17x11 ZR1's with 315/35/17 drag radials and 245-45/17's up front $900
17x9 rebels with 275/40/17 drag radials $700
18x10 rebels with 305/35/18 drag radials $1,000

what do you all think???
