Default How to Identify OEM ZR1

I have a friend with 17 inch Chrome ZR1 wheels and was wondering if there is anyway to tell if its an OEM wheel other than removing the tire and weighing the wheel.

Thanks,
Lane

There should be a GM stamp on the wheels.

Arent the ZR1s that come on the SS Camaros from SLP? Would they still have a GM stamp on them?

I don't think they're from SLP, but I'm not sure. A friend of mine had 2 17x9 OEM ZR1's and they had a GM stamp on them and they came off an SS.

Heres a pic of the GM stamp, not a ZR1 style, but you get the idea its in a similar position..

SLP didn't make some of the SS LS1 cars. THey made all the LT1 cars but only some of the SS cars, depending on options. I still think GM put the wheels on all of them though.

Mine are OEM chrome ZR1's.... no GM stamp here. I have yet to see any chrome wheels with the GM stamp.

This might be your answer man. I know the silver ones have them, but the chromes may not.

I have a set of Chrome 10 spokes with the stamp, and I had a set of silver ZR1 style that had the stamp. Maybe the chrome ZR1 doesn't have the stamp??

Not and easy answer . . . I'd assume that therey would be a GM part number on the backside of the spokes.

As for a GM logo, some of the original ZR-1 style wheels, circa 1996-97 had a GM stamp on them. Then for cost reasons GM outsourced them.

The chrome ZR-1's on Camaro SS's did not come from GM, they were installed by SLP. Just like the chrome 10 spokes came from SLP, not GM . . .

if the wheels are gm, they will have a gm stamp on the lip. its kinda hard to miss. oh and loudmouthlt1, you are mistaken. all ls1 SSs started life as a z28 from the factory. gm sent the z28s to slp for the conversion. options were avalable such as different exhast/ suspension mods, or you could get a base SS with just the exhast, hood, wing, and emblems.

So does that mean that becuz the zr1 or ss 10spoke wheels are from slp they wont have a GMstamp on them, but a SLP type stamp instead?

Not true. Only the early ZR1 wheels have a GM logo on the outside face of the wheel. And as I said before, for cost reasons the wheels were outsourced by GM and the wheel no longer have a GM logo on them. So I had chrome ZR1's on my SS, and there were no GM stampings.

There is no easy explanation.
