Question Rim and Tire Change?

The question I have is I'm changing from:

255X50X16 to 275X40X17.

How will my Speedometer read (Change.)

The turning I have is for the 255X50X16

Thanks in advance

The total diameter of the two tire are the same (I believe), the 17's are just lower profile. So the speedo should not change much if any.

Yeah, your speedometer will not be off. I switched from 245/50/16 to 275/40/17 and 315/35/17 and didn't have to adjust anything.

I think tirerack's webpage has a calculator that will give the the numbers.

At 25.7", the 275/40R17 is about half an inch shorter than 255/50R16 (26.2"), so the speed difference will be just under 2% (about 1.1 MPH at 60). The 245/50R16 is the same overall diameter as a 275/40R17 and 315/35R17, so there isn't any difference in speed with those sizes. In any case, you shouldn't notice it.
