Default Different tire sizes

Whats the big deal about running a 17" 26" dia wheel/tire combo in the front and a 18" 27" dia wheel/tire combo in the rear?
I understand the speedo recalibrate, but is there really a problem with it, handleing, ride, performance...?

I didn't notice any adverse effects when I had the 17/18 combo on my car for a few months.

Yep. I ran 26" in front and 28" rear and everytimes i used my brakes, the ABS would kick in (Flashing) and eventually get disabled (Solid ABS light). Just by restarting the car it would go back to normal.
