Lightbulb Tires now? Tires/Rims later?

I can get new tires for around 500 bucks now for my factory aluminum 16" rims...OR...

I can wait a few months and get new rims (17") and tires, for around a grand, maybe a bit less.

What would you do?

The tires are in pretty poor shape, but not showing cords. And I live like 3 blocks from where I work, so I put next to no miles on the car.

I will probably put Vette rims on, leaning towards the polished Z06 rims. Possibly the chrome C5 rims. Maybe SS rims.

Thoughts?

HAH if only it was that simple. My credit card is basically maxed, that's why if I wait a few months I should be able to afford both. After I chip away at my current debt a bit lol!

I was in the exact same position, until like 3 hours ago when I ordered riveted Z06 wheels and tires in a package. My tires are starting to show cords.

I voted tires and rims later. Getting rid of debt means they dont get interest out of you. Less money for the man and more for you and your new rims and tires.

if you can't buy stuff like this ( toys basically ) with cash, then you really don't need to buy it. especially when you're in debt out the ***.

I'm in the same boat. $400 for 16" tires or $1200 for 17" rims/tires.

On the other hand, if I did just get tires, and keep my stock rims. I could then spend a little money on performance mods. Plus I need a new front airdam. Tough decision

You always get a joker like this.

You can always look for a set of used later to save money. If you need tires because its a safety thing then get tires. You can always upgrade later. I'll be selling my chrome zr1's when I buy a set of Fikse's w/ tires. Just an example of a deal you can find if you look good enough. My wheels are OEM Chrome ZR1's not cheap knock offs and I'm not the only person who upgrades and sells his old stuff. Good knock off ZR1's are around 225 a peice. Mine will sell pro'lly for 550-600 for wheels and tires. Again this is just an example of what you can find.

Or at least offer advice pertinent to what was asked instead of being a JAFA.
