Default Best street tires ~$500 or less for a set? And what size can I run on stock rims?

I'm looking to buy a new set of tires all around for my 99 TA. It's stock right now and I plan on doing some bolt-ons this summer and taking it to the track once every few weeks so I want tires that will grip, but at the same time I can deal with slightly worse 1/4 times if it means not spending over $150 a tire! What are the best 'budget' summer tires for a stock/bolt-on car that will see the track once in a while?

Also is it possible to go wider than 245 on the stock rims or not? And if so is it worth doing? Does it help much to go wider on a stock car? And what size could I go up to if this was possible? Thanks.

These look like they're a pretty good bang for the buck. They're $94 for a 255/50-16 (plus shipping)

If you get them, post how you like them.

I have Fuzion ZRi tires and like them alot for street use, ride quiet, handle nicely but are traction limited at 500 RWHP. They are a nice tire for daily driving but I've never used them at the track...pricing $119/ tire at tire rack.

I second the Fuzion's. Very good street tire.

I assume by these suggestions that on the stock rims I can run 255/50 then?

Why wouldn't it look right? As long as it fit ok wouldn't it be fine? Or better since they'd be wider?

255's look great. They have a nice wide bulging lip. As big as you are gona get on a 16. Ive got the Kumho ECSTA's and LOVE them. Great traction & even better price! I do have 17's, though.

Is it safe to run 255 on the 16s? You say bulging...makes it sound bad.

Completely and totally safe. Did it for years and ran at very high speeds alot. Very common tire size on 16's when someone wants a wider footprint. I used the term "bulge" cuz I like a tire that hangs over the rim a little. You are good, just do it, Itll look alot better!

i run KUMHO's on the front and they wear well....pretty good all-around tire imo.

Im in the minority here, but I put on Sumitomo HTRZ II (not the horrid regular HTRZ). 2.1 60' time on a slipping clutch, 13.1 lid/catback time. THey're now on my 420whp setup, and hook decent. 100/tire on my 275/40/17 size.. if they make them in your size not a bad tire.

Tho of the ones mentioned so far, I'd go with the BFGoodrich Sports
