stained painted wheels (stockers)
my 98 has the five spoke stockers and a combo of heat, brake dust, and tar have effed up and stained the paint on them and they look horrible. ive wetsanded them with a fine grit contour block and it got almost all the cooked dust off except in some crevices but the paint is so faded and isnt reflective at all. anything i can do to it? and what about stripping the paint all the way off and just polishing the aluminum underneath, has anyone done this before?

Brake cleaner will take the tar off.
Rubbing compound and a buffer or some serious elbow grease might bring the paint back to life.
Yes, you can strip the paint and polish the wheels, but its a ton of work and requires you to have a pretty decent selection of tools for the job. You would be money, time and frustration ahead to pay someone else to do it... There are guys on this site that have done it. Just do a search on polishing. Or just find another set of rims that are not wasted.
