Default Help me pick: two choices. Wide oval vs mx

Hey guys. I have had several sets of tires and going to be better another in the future. I have learned with tires you get what you pay for. On my lt1 car I run the Kumho MX 285/40/17.

I got ls1 about 400HP(wheels).

I want some good tires. Its really between the Firestone wide oval and the Kumho MX what do you guys think..

The firestons get good reivews but cost a little more. But still like 45 bucks cheaper than the GS-D3.

Wide oval vs mx

I will be driving in some rain. etc

I would get some GS-D3's, they are the best overall tire on the market today IMO. If youre gonna spend that much money on tires, then you might as well get the best.

Not to dis your post. But that's not a chocie. I feel like the GS-D3 will give minimal gains over the other tires. And lower tread wire than the wide oval I"m guessing.

The main reason. Lets say there a little better all the way around its still 184 dollars more for thet of tires.

Thats 836 bucks for a set of tires. Thats HUGE amount of money. cheap kumhos are 400 and the last set of Mx's was around 600. So i'm trying to stay in the 600 range.

Wide Ovals did better then G-Force T/A KDW in tirerack tests. I would go with those. My second choice would be G-Force sports. Cheaper and probably a little less grippy, but still very sticky. Many people here with nice amount of mods are happy with them. I did a ton of research on tires recently.

Thanks I"m been reading tons too. I think the wide ovals are like 85 bucks more for the set. I have the MX's on my lt1 car and they handle much better than these hancoks but there good traction just not good handling.

So still a hard decsion. Anybody else running the firestone?

I got the firestone I'm happy with them. And I was happy with the MX I would get either one again.

I've had the wide ovals for about 17k mi. They're not bad at all for street tires, but I won't be using them again at the strip.

im running the wide ovals. havnt had any probs with them. they came on the car so i cant really compare them to anything else. the only thing i dont like is they seem to have a smaller tread than they say. my 295s seem too skinny for the stock z06 wheels. but they do have a fat sidewall ring to help keep the curb rash down.
