Default 245's in front, 275's on the back?

Im getting some new tires all around. Currently, i have 275/40/17 all around. Im getting 275/40/17 BFG Drag radials for the back and im thinking about getting 245/45/17 Evo Z's for the front. How will this look? As far as looking at the car from the side, will it look weird or anything. I want to make sure it will look the same when you look at it from the side. I have the 02 SS wheels on my car.

Also, someone told me if i put 245/40/17's on the front, instead of 275's again, my car will be a little faster. Is that true?

This is for a 94 Z28.

Thanks.

245's on a 9 or 9.5" rim look retarded and stretched out. You're not losing that much weight to really make a difference in going from a 275 to a 245 and the rolling resistance difference won't make a huge difference either. If you're lucky you MIGHT see a hundredth difference in your times. There's a guy around me that has 17x9.5 ZR1's and cheaped out and put 245's all around. I hate the looks of it everytime I see it.

^^^^ Beat me to it, but I will agree with him anyway

What size rims do you have now? If they are 17x9 or 17x9.5 you need to stick with a 275/40/17. If you go any smaller the rim will stick out past the tire looking like *** and making it easier to damage the rim. A 245 tire isn't going to make much difference in times over a 275. Just to put the 245 tire into perspective my girlfriend has 245/45/17's on 17x8 wheels and they fit perfect.

They are 17x9 rims so I wouldn't run a 245 tire on them.

Alright, i'll have to wait for some 275's in the front then. What are some good front tires? (they don't have to be the best, just good)

I thought 245/45/17's were the same height though? I don't see how it would look different from the side.

I put 245s on the front of my old Z06 wheels I had on my Camaro. The only reason I did that was b/c they were intended for the '69, and when I got the Camaro I threw them on it. They didn't look too bad, or not bad enough for it to be noticable. I believe they were Kumhos.

I think the height is the same. So, technically you shouldn't notice a difference at all.

What didn't you like about it?

Probably the fact the lip of the wheel sticks out farther than the tread of the tire. That's why they look like *** to me.

So, what size tire would look good on the front? (except for 275/40/17's)

None. I had 245's on the front of my old ZO's because I didn't know any better, looked like crap, and the side wall will start to develop cracks if you stretch the tire like that. 275's or nothing, they arent much more, and if your pinching pennies on tires, you may want to look into a different car.

What is the reason for being an a$$hole? Im not pinching pinching pennies on tires. The reason im asking this question, is because GoodYear doesn't stock a 275/40/17 tire. I don't feel like waiting 10 business for the tires to come in, so i was wondering how 245's would look on the front. I already have the new BFG's and i just wanted to put everything on at the same time.

I guess you can say im anxious. Not pinching for pennies. You shouldn't judge a book by its cover. I think I'll stick with my car, thanks though.

I have no idea, but they said 7-10 business days and thats a long time in my opinion...Especially for a set of front tires...

Calm down buddy, I wasn't being how you so politely labled me. I said IF, not YOU'RE, and YOU SHOULD. 10 Business days is ridiculous for tires, you can have wheels faster. Even if it did take that long, whats wrong with waiting? I simply suggested that IF, that is IF, meaning IF, you were pinching pennies on tires, then I started thinking about fuel, maintenance, car washes, etc. then you'd be better off with something else. But as you made is so apparent, you AREN'T, as in ARE NOT, pinching pennies, then wait, or even get some different 275's and let the wheels look good 10 days later, then look weird 10 days earlier. You can order 275 Goodyears from Tire Rack, or DTD. Better now?

Im not going to bother getting into it with you. Your trying to be a smart a$$ and if you don't see that, well... (its pretty obvious, as in *it is*) Just read your post. All this "IF" that and "IF" this. AREN'T, as in "ARE NOT." Your being a d*ck and it's a waste of time to fight with an arrogant *****.

If i mistakenly took your post wrong, why would reply being more of a smart a$$? You could have said, I didn't mean it that way. Instead, you typed such a sarcastic comment.

I still find it hard to believe that your first post wasn't (as in was not) sarcastically suggestive. Telling me i should look into another car, just because i had a question about tire size? I suppose you could read it both ways. Although, with the response you left, it makes me more confident you intended it the way i took it. Have a nice day.

P.S. Thanks for some of your help. I'll go with the 275's.

Why exactly would I apologize for you reading my statement wrong, it wasn't meant in any way to be rude, and you were a ***** in response, do you really expect me to be nice back? I mean you did call me an a$$hole when I in no way called names or displayed any behavior to warrant that remark. Why would I be a dick for no apparent reason, it doesnt make any sense. I dont really care what you believe was intended as that doesn't change any facts. Mmk pumkin? Good thing you went with the 275's as they are actually going to help save your rim some if you curb check at all, since they aren't stretched to a tension point.
