Default What 18" tires?

I just got some chrome 18" zo6 wheels for $375 They're 18 x 9.5 and 18 x 10.5. They're in excellent condition too. Anyway I wanted to go with GS-D3's....What sizes to go on the rims? 305/315?

OK here you go.

This might not help. I have 18x9.5 inner lip measured HRE wheels. If you choose you can run 40 series height but you are limited to 8 brands at 285 width. 2 years agot it was only 4 brands. If you drop down to 275 40 series that opens it up to quite a bit more selection. I run 18/285/40 in Michelin Pilot Sport. They had a special run of 285 and do not list that they even make that size in a 40 series. I can't comment on tires because once I ran Pilot Sport 10 years ago I never looked back, every car gets them now.

If you drop down to a 35 series tire in 18" then its a smorgasbord of choice. I stayed with 40 series because I wanted to keep some ride quality and also fill up the wheelwell more. I have a WS6 and gained a 1/2" all the way around. Works perfect.

I have sized up all the options and just could not see running anything wider then a 285. Just didn't make sense to me to deviate much from the factory width of 275 on the WS6.

I've got 18*9.5 on all fours running P285/35/18 tires.

Since you have 2 18*10.5 for the rears you can probably go with 295s in the rear.

If it was me I would run 305/35/18 in the rear and 285/35/18 in the front.

That will make the rear tires .5" taller than the front, but I don't think you would have a problem...some say it will mess up the ABS but I don't see how since there's tons of people on here running different size (height) front/rear tires.

How would it make it .5" taller? They're all on 35 series. What is ABS? Will I have clearance problems? I hope I won't be rubbing?

the series number is a ratio, not static height. 285/35 means the sidewall is 35% of 285 (the tread) so just becuase you have two different sizes doesnt mean they will be the same height.

only thing is you will be .5" higher IN THE BACK since 35% of 305 is taller than 35% of 285.

and i dont think goodyear makes 315/35/18 in the GSD3, they make 17s in 315s though...

According to the Goodyear website the widest GSD3's come in are P295.
As for Anti-lock Brake System, if you don't keep the front and rear tires close in their overall diameter it will throw off the ABS system do to the differant rotating speeds.

So would it be better if I sold them for 17's?? Isn't 18's close to the overall diameter from 17's?

What you have in 18's are fine. The height of a 17" wheel with a 40 series tire is almost exactly the same height as an 18" wheel with a 35 series tire.

Go to tirerack.com and search tires by size then select the performance type. Once you see the tires you like look at the "specs" section for that tire and it will give you the diameter of the tire. SSmokin you might want to visit a perfromance tire dealer, go to their shop.

No.... you will be fine with the 18's. (I am running 18*9.5 on p285/35 on all fours. I went will all four the same so I can rotate them.) By overall diameter I was actually referring to the tires over all diameter. It doesn't have to be exact but it does have to be fairly close to keep from screwing with the ABS

Since you went with some 18*10.5 for the rears, you can go a little wider in the rear. Probably some P295 or P315. The 315 will be harder to find and are not available in GSD3 but if you switch to a different brand that size may well be available.

I would also advise you to see a performance tire dealer. Some one who does custom wheel installs and has experience in +1 and +2sizing. DO NOT GO TO WALLY WORLD FOR THIS!!!!!!!!!! (Just a warning)

Also, you will want someone with experience in mag wheels. You don't want them to screw up you new wheels!!! Make sure they use the stick on wheel weights made for mag wheels. Don't let them use hammer weights. (If they use hammer weights... they DON'T know what they are doing.)

As with everything... there are tire installers that know what they are doing... and tire installers that don't know what they are doing.

If you find a shop with the Hunter GSP9700 they can not only do Road Force Balancing but also the Lateral Force Measurement to determine what tire goes on what wheel and how.

Go here to their site and click on "Locate a GSP9700"
