Default My lug cracked off!

I had a local shop mount and put on my new TTM's a few days ago and on my way home from work today I felt/heard a rattling from my front driver wheel. I pulled in a parking lot and saw one of the lugs had cracked off! Im assuming either they were screwed on too tight or not tight enough, so how could I tell in the future myself how much torque to apply to the lugs and has this ever happened to any of you before?

I would get a torque wrench. My favorite are the clickers. Set the indicator on the handle to 100ft/lb and slowly tightn the lugs and you will hear and feel a "click". DONE.

Be sure your torquing your wheel lugs and not your sisters titty. Just kiddding man lol. Ace hardware, hobo, sears, ebay, walmart will have them. The better the wrench the more accurate the torque reading.

To get a good Torque wrench expect to pay a good amount of money.

Try going to Americas Tires, if there is one around you, and ask one of the techs to torque your lugs. (100 ft/lbs) Guys occasionally come by asking for their lugs to be torque, takes few minutes and you're off.

Americas Tire Co. is Discount Tire Co. on the west coast. If there is a Discount Tire near you, they would be more than happy to check the torque on your car. It's always best to have newly installed wheels re-torqued after 50 or so miles.

I have torqued 2 of my lugs to 90ftlbs and broken them before. but I think the shop the shop that balanced them put them on with an impact.

One quick additional note about torque wrenches. DO NOT drop the wrench EVER. These wrenches are calibrated, and if you drop it or bang it on a table or what have you, it will no longer apply the amount of torque selected on the wrench. Just FYI

When I threw in a search for Americas Tire, Disount Tire kept popping up.

I had no idea to try and re-torque new wheels/tires after 50 miles. I found this really weird to happen, b/c I have put on and off my stock wheels many times w/o a tq wrench and everything was fine. Nevermind a tire shop screwing something like this up.

Wow, thats really annoying to not being able to drop/bang the wrech considering how much $$$ it is and the kind of environment its exposed to all the time.

I just have to say, it seems wierd you said a cracked lug. Usally the stud breaks but, anything can happen. I have had both. I would replace lugs just for the hell of it. When **** like this happens to me, I want to sleep at night so I take the extra steps to double check all my T's and lowercase j's and i's. If your engine doesn't start big deal. When it comes to suspension, brakes and streering there are NO SHORT-CUTS.
