Default Quick wheel spacer ??

Do you guys put wheel spacers on for show or do you absolutely need them with 315's? What is that rubber piece under the wheel well that hangs close to the rear wheels for? Apparently my new 315mm 10.5" wheels/tires are close to this thing and is possibly rubbing against it. Can this piece get banged in if there is rubbing? I can supply pics if necessary.

Here are pics of the piece im talking about. What is this thing in between the wheel and spring? Please help out cause my local mechanic wants to put spacers in which will prolly run me a good $100, when all I really may need is the rubber mallet in my basement. Thanks.

Yea sorry for the bad pics, hard to get good lighting underneath there. I thought ive heard about that before, never knew what it actually looked like though. It seems like its just a piece of rubber attached to the body. What's the point of that thing? Cool, ill get rid of it myself, thanks

When you go over a large bump, and the suspension compresses, it keeps everything from bottoming out. It hits the top of the axle first, so that the rear shock doesn't compress past a point it's not supposed to. If you remove it, and if you happen to have lowering springs, next time you hit a huge dip, you'll most likely hear a loud bang from the rear of the car...that's a bad noise Even with a stock height car it'll bottom out quite easily, and people don't seem to realize that...

^ WoW, that sounds kind of important. Knew good ol' GM wouldnt make a piece for nothin. Guess im not gona remove it. No point it saving money now only to possibly spend more on repairs later. I guess Donahue did say to SHAVE it and not remove it.

my bump stops are completely off. I dont have problems, but then again i dont drive my car like a crazy man hitting huge bumps etc. I have sportlines and usually take things slow.

^Fair enough. Here is a thread in the handling section where Sam Strano, a suspension guru and one of the more respected sponsors on here, adds that the bump stop is a very important piece. https://ls1tech.com/forums/suspension-brakes/605871-bump-stops-shocks.html

Leave it there, It wont hurt the tire, unless you jump
If you remove it to drive slow or with care then whats the point, the best thing you can do is to make your car stronger instead of weak, so you drive it like nothing can happen to it you know

I used some 1/8" Iroc spacers on mine. Mine would bottom out like crazy anyway, but I never had the tires to rub that I'm aware of.

My local mechanic installed spacers for free for me when I brought it in for a round of fluid changes etc. Now I can rip on it with a clear head.
