Narrowing 17" factory rims for "skinnies"
Got a pair of the SS 10-spokes going to Weldcraft
to narrow up for skinnies. Just want to keep the
look and already have ET Streets on same rim for
the back (but expect to send those to widen to
10.5" shortly).
Question I have is, how skinny can you get street
grade rubber, H rated or better, in a 17" diameter?
I'm not talking pizza cutters here, still have to drive
50 highway miles to the track and so on.
5"? 6"? Where does it get into over-expensive and
under-available, in a 60- or 70-series light weight
but not-insane-to-drive-there&back-on radial?

I was going to ask you the same question when I read the thread title. I'm running 15" skinnies so it's of no personal concern, but where are you going to find 17" tires to use as "skinnies"?
Motorcycle tires, sure, but our cars weigh a significant amount more than the motorcycles that the wheels were designed for!

Yeah, looking to be inside 10% diameter difference.
Maybe a 70 series, depending on how wide the rim
ends up. Once the rear rims get widened I may have
to sell the Mickeys for something similarly tall but
even fatter and maybe a radial.

Hiding it in boxes in the garage....
And they don't call it Orlando Spin World for nothing.
"Real" events get track prep, "Street Drags" you get
what the 100 guys in front of you left. Kinda like
Paris Hilton. And not in a good way. If there is one.
So far the best 60' has been 2.0 (not on the Mickeys)
and spinning well into 2nd. I need weight off the nose
and sticky meats in the back. Then my lack of power
can really shine through.

I'm sending mine to Weldcraft also.I saw a set that they did at the track this past season and loved it.I'll have to look at the pics tonight to get the name but Hoosier makes a 26/7.5/17.That is what this guy was running and it is a radial also.

Good choice would probably be 205/50/17. These tend to run in the 25.1-25.4" overall diameter range depending on the manufacturer. Don't know what size you're planning to run in the rear, but these are pretty close to the stock 275/40/17 diameter. Specs show 5.5-7.5" wheel width range for most of the brands.
If you're interested in this size go check out Bridgestones at Tirerack. They're on closeout for ~ $90 each...
