Cool Widening stock rims?

All,

Sorry if this has been asked before!

We have a rim place where I live that can widen your rims. Has anybody done this here before? If so were you pleased? Where did you have it done? Did your offset change?

Thanks! I'm a newbie!

Apparently this place has been doing it for years! Haven't checked the price yet. Might be cheaper to replace all four than just having the rears widened.

I just got my C6's back from James at Weldcraft. I had two C6 8.5" widened to
10.5" and I can tell you firsthand...FVCK YEAH, These guys know what they're doin.
Can't wait till spring to get tires and get these mounted. Will post pics when done.

This place widens them.
http://www.fixrim.com/
The Dallas location does the work. Cost's about $200 as they use a donor rim. If you have your own donor, it would be cheaper. By using a donor there is only one bead of weld.

This has definetely been talked about and more locations were posted. Try a search for them.

A ~2in spacer will be needed as well.

Thats way too much, more like a 1 inch just to get the rim almost flush with the fender. 2 inches and you'll be riding mexi.

Think of it like this. If you add 2" to the width, get a 1" spacer. If you add 1.5", get a 3/4" spacer. So about half the extra width. You also reach a limit as to how thin a spacer/adapter can get. About the thinnest I've seen was 3/4". They should also be hubcentric. Likw this:

What rims are you widening? Maybe someone has already done this before. I've seen the camaro SS anniversary rims, 98 and 02 OEM 17" WS6 style rims and Firehawk rims widened and have pics if you need them.

I've heard of people having to run 2in spacers. If you do a search. it varies upon what people use. but ya. if the 2in spacer make the wheel stick out then obviously dont do it.

2" may work well with the stock 16" to make it stick out more like the front, but I've never heard of anyone using a 2" on a widened wheel. Are you sure it was for a widened rim?

hubcentric spacers are the way to go - wait until you get your wheels until
you buy spacers, that way you can mount em and figure out if 1" is not enough
or 2" is too much.

There are no wide 16" street tires, only race tires with little to no tread. You can get wide 15's if they fit over your brakes. Check out TireRack and do a search for specific sizes. That may help you.

Really, the stock 16's look way better with a spacer to push them out some. If you jack up the axle just enough to slip the tire off and then pull the tire out a little, you can see what it would look like.
