Default What options do I have for a 28" tire for the drag strip?

I am in need of a 28" tire for the drag strip. I want to see what you guys have to recommend for a tire as well as a rim. I would like to do this as inexpensive as possible (ie no bogarts) I also do not want to grind on my rear brakes. I dont mind running a stock rim (16 or 17) if I can get a tire for it. I have been looking and I have only found ET Street 28x11.5-16

Also, a 28" tall tire, will that cause and clearance issues in the rear for anything or no?

Thanks guys,
Mike

Hoosier makes a 28.0x10.0x16 slick that you can run on a 8" wheel

M/T makes a 315/45R16 ET Street DR that is 27" and a 295/45R17 that is 27.5"

Does anyone sell the 295/17 yet or no?

I have run the 28" tall 11.5" ET Streets on the stock 16" wheel. Just a little massaging of the fender lip and trimming back the plastic a bit (not noticeable) works on a Firebird. I only had to trim the plastic piece when I discovered that scuff point at 145 MPH on the dyno. I'm glad I did that before taking it to the track.

I've heard a Camaro is a tighter fit, though.

I have been reading you cannot run a radial up front though, can you shed any more light on that one? I was all set on this and now I read that, so that kinda sucks lol

I was under the impression that M/T "new" tires were released, but I could be wrong.

I run radial tires on the front and bias (non radial) tires on the rear with no problems. I also run radial/radial setup as well which is much more stable.
The sidewall on the bias tire has much more side-to-side movement than a radial tire.

I run radials up front, too. But, with "balloony-feeling" tires in the back like ET Streets, firm radials up front don't allow the car to track down the road very well (and especially at the track at 100+ MPH) . That is what was explained to me, and I believe it. The car feels a little out-of-control.

I'm considering either trying the M/T ET Street Radial or taking the fronts to bias ply.
