gs-d3 vs bfg kd 275/40/17 Just wondering if there would be much difference between these two tires and which one would be better to go with on a cammed ls1 6speed w/ boltons and suspension mods?
Good weather street car + some strip.

I just got done replying to a similar thread on a local forum, so I will copy/paste what I said there.
lol....here we go again....
drag racers and road course guys will NEVER agree on a tire, period. If you drag race and want hole shot traction you want soft sidewalls..aka drag radials. If you want handling you want a nice stiff sidewall.
the KD's are a GREAT street legal dry weather HANDLING tire, this means that they are not a drag radial and will not hook like one. If you want a tire that hooks then you need a drag radial, if you need something that handles incredibly well and street legal then go with a KD. If you want something that tries to compromise and does both equally well you will end up with a tire that does both equally as crappy....lol
I have owned a set of Toyo T1-S's, Yoko ES-100's, BFG KD's and now Michelin PS'2 and the KD's are the best performing out of the group. The T1-S's and ES100's were HORRIBLE in the handling department and had too soft of sidewalls for my liking. The steering response sucked! They both hooked pretty decent with the T1-S's hooking rather well although they handled the worst out of the group. The KD's are an in your face type of tire though so if you don't like feeling the road I suggest you look elsewhere. My PS2's probably have 90% of the performance of the KD's while having a more docile ride. The PS2's are also one of the lighter high performance tires out there as well. I agree, you get what you pay for and both the KD's and PS2's are not cheap (I paid over $400 a piece for my rear 295/30/18 PS2's and over $325 a piece for my fronts). The GSD3's are probably a decent all around tire but I doubt they do either exceptionally well. I have heard complaints from road course guys of their sidewall being rather soft, if this is the case I know I would HATE them as I did with the other tires I have tried and sold almost immediately.

I went with the gs-d3's... Had them put on today and probably drove 10 miles. I am very impressed with them. Ill put up a more in depth review later but it just felt like they actually grab in 1st gear and i can take turns a lot faster without skidding.

Ive had both and I would say the KD does perform leaps and bounds over the D3. It sounds like your going to be driving your car hard so I would lean towards the KD's. The D3's are tremendous in the rain and a good overall DD/performance tire.

I don't know where this rain issue with the KD's has come from, at least I haven't experienced it. In the last couple of months in Oklahoma we've had some flooding and I've been caught in the middle of it more than once and have had zero issues. In normal rain at speed they are just fine too, even hitting some puddles I have no hydroplaning issues. Albeit they do have a stiffer sidewall so you will feel the road a little more, but traction is good, handling is awesome, great dry weather tire, and rain tire IMHO. I daily drive my car rain or shine and have had zero issues with these tires (I have them front and back), I most certainly will buy them again.

The thing is that sometimes people want a tire that gives a little bit, ie they don't want to break 10 bolts left and right. Sticky tires that dont spin especially on gear shifts will nuke the rear. Additionally, 555r's are not a handling tire, there are a lot of people that value handling and they just aren't optimal for that, their sidewalls flex a lot.
