Default Sumitomo 315/35 R17's, my thoughts

I just put a set on the rear of my Z-28 last night to use for highway driving to the F-body Gathering and other car shows. First of all they aren't a bad looking tire, well, until their mounted. These tires leave the lip of the rim sticking out, unlike the BFG Drag Radials which are even with the rim lip. They are smaller than the BFG Drag Radials too. Traction, what traction? I seriously thought these would hook up better than what they do. I punched it from a stop last night and the tires broke loose so hard that I had to let out. I tried again from a 45 mph roll thinking surely they would hook then, Nope. I slammed it at 45mph and as soon as the tranny dropped back to first the *** end goes across the lane smoking the **** out of the Sumicrappo's.
I haven't tried hitting corners yet so I can't say what the handling will be like but so far all these are good for would be daily driving or putting around. My cammed Z-28 eats these tires for breakfast. BFG's for the win as far as tires go in a 315.

I Know but now I really see how much power my car has, before it would just hook and pull, now it's all over the place.

BFG makes a good street/comp tire for a fairly descent price. I had the Sumitomo's on my 99 for awhile until i noticed the amount of tread that being left on rear quater panels. The Sumitomo's just dont last, but just like everyone else is saying...100 bucks, you get what you pay for... it was almost like my car was being powder coated buy tire dust. I recently purchased some Kumho's that, so far, seem to be performiong well for me. the traction is the best i've ever had, and they corner pretty good too... just food for thought

Yeah, my buddy had them on his 04 Cobra. He dynoed 469rwhp and 499 rwtq. He couldnt get better than a 14.7 on sumitomos. He swapped tires and ran low 11's dont recall those numbers. We just give him crap about he 14 sec pullied Terminator. HAHAHA

On the other hand I did think about getting some for driving to car shows. They are really cheap so it makes it worth it.

they are crappy tires... but for a lightly modded car they are fine for themoney... i was pulling 1.9 60's in my old 93 trans am... it had only bolt ons and was auto running 13.7's... so for the weekend guy who really isnt all that into performance on a budget they are ok... id never run them again after running my firestone wide ovals... but again i paid $500 for the set of 4 wideovals at a employee price because i used to work for them... almost $900 a set store front wise.... you cant be angree when a huge tire that only cost you $100 isnt that great... when the next closest cheaper tire is double the price.....

yeah they are pretty shitty tires lol. i had a set mounted on my black zr1's right before i sold them and i was able to to a rolling burn out at any speed. even 80mph! it was priceless though cause my friend dropped his jaw when i did it and was like WHAT DID YOU DO TO THE CAR ARE YOU SPRAYIN NOW! but yeah in the rain they didnt seem that bad, just forget about playin around on them though, to dangerous.
