for those who hate Sumitomos
What tires were yo running before them, and after them?
Just curious, cause I just got mine and have had em almost a week. They seem to be pretty decent tires. The HTRZ or whatever's not the II ones. When they squeal they sound alot louder than my old wheels.
I had BFG KDWS 245/50zr16s on before these. The Sumi's dry traction is definitely better as is cornering. Then again they are 275/40zr17 and 315/35zr17.
It hasnt rained yet but supposedly raining this week.
anyways, thanks

Maybe its too early to tell.. but I think I am going to order another set when these go out. Not sure which type of tire I will use for the winter... I may go back to my old 16x8 rims and put a new set of bfg kdws tires on. Ill have to look fro something economical and good for all season.

Well i have the 315 HTRZ's (just found out thanks to another thread ) and they are great for DD'ing and burnouts. They are good if your not into racing much and just cruise and have fun (burnouts are fun ) and they have good wet handling and they are pretty quiet.
If anyone wants a barely used (2.5kmiles) set of 315/35/17 sumi's they can have mine for 130$ (normally 96$ each).
I'm going with Nitto's as soon as I sell these, and If i don't sell them then I'm gonna turn them into a lot of smoke

chuckles... i wish i could do that
Maybe its just because im comparing them to my old 245s.. so I guess I cant fairly compare them to any other 275/315 set up..
I wish it would rain for the sake of trying them out in it

Everyone bags on this tire but forgets that they only paid $400 brand new for a combo set.
For the money, you can't beat them. That said, I would probably spend a couple extra bucks and get better tires. I had bought a set, and sold them with my old zr1 wheels.

I only paid $160 for the pair in the rear...I have Kumho's up front....but I just hope these tires will last me another 10k (have 2k on them) then I'm gonna just run a Nitto on the street....Like I said, for the price they work, but I'd rather pick up an extra shift at work and get something better next time....

The increased handling is definately due to the smaller sidewall on the larger tires. The better hooking also comes from the fact that these new rims and tires you have weigh significantly more than your old rolling stock and thus will sap some of your power by adding sprung weight. Either way, its definately a nice upgrade from the 16s, it was possibly my favorite mod when I did it, hehe.
