What wheels look better on an '02 SOM Z28? Black ZR1's or black Torq Thrusts?
IMHO, the shine from chrome and polished aluminum wheels just don't go together with the shine from the SOM paint. They clash to the point where your eyes hurt just looking at the combination. For the f-bodies with the sunset orange metallic paint, I think black rims are the way to go. Black rims offset the brilliance of SOM perfectly.
I also think that buying new rims is like buying a new pair of shoes--they don't stay new for long. So, why spend so much money on them?
With all of that said, I think the two best wheel choices for my SOM Z28 would be either the black ZR1's with the polished lip or the black Torq Thrust rims. The black ZR1's are cheaper, but I'm leaning more towards the black Torq Thrusts. The Torq Thrusts have more area that's polished, only weigh 21.5 lbs per wheel according to Tire Rack, are probably made in America (they are made by American Racing Wheels after all), and are only a couple of hundred dollars more than the black ZR1's (as seen in the tomzwheels website).
Just a couple of questions: my car is lowered 1 inch with Strano lowering springs and I want the 17x10.5 rears. Will I need to modify my rear fender to make the rears fit? Also, I'm currently running on the factory 16's. Will I lose traction at the drag strip with the 17x10.5 rears? Thanks in advance for the info.

I'm a ***** for TTIIs, BUT I think the black ZR1s with the polished lip will look freakin amazing on a SOM Z so that's what I voted for.
There is a guy with chrome C5Z06 wheels on his SOM Z here in town and I think it looks great. Just something to keep in mind if you decide agianst black and still want something nice and cheep.
