Default If you narrow the rearend on an F Body what size wheels

I will be getting the parts together soon for a 9 inch swap. Since I was going to get some new wheels just how wide of a wheel and tire can I run in the back without tubbing it. If the rearend was narrowed would a 335 fit? I would like to stay with a 17 or 18 inch wheel. I would also like to keep the tire some kind of DR. I haven't really done much research to know what sizes are available but just was thinking about my options.

Narrowing the rearend won't give you more wheel and tire width options. The limiting factor there is the physical size of the wheel well. As far as rim choise the amount that you narrow the rearend you will have to adjust the wheel Backspace accordingly. Example if you run a 17x11 with a 7.5" backspace and the rearend is narrowed 2" total (or 1" per side) you will now have to run a 17x11 with a 6.5" backspace giving the rim a larger lip. Usually people narrow rearends though because it results in a lighter more stable driveline and gives the ability to run more popular backspaced 15x10" drag wheels.

sixvi6-camaro is correct, i have a 9" narrowed two inches and the reason why is weight and the shorter the axles, the stronger they are. i have fit a 335 in the back before but it took some hammer love inside the wheel well. just narrow the 9" and get the appropriate rims with 315 tires. i love my deep dish prostar xp's.

Is there actually much weight reduction from just two inches per side?

I would guess it would be a decent amount. Maybe 30lbs or so
