Default Nitto 555, BFG Drag Radial, BFG KD, GSD3, or ???

For those with some experience, I'm going with 315 on 17x11 wheels on the rear. I'm wondering what is the best straight line traction tire. I'm putting somewhere close to 400HP on the ground and want something that will handle it pretty well on the street. Handling/Cornering isn't as big of a concern as traction is. The car won't see too much wet weather, but might occasionally get caught out in a shower once in a while when a nice day turns rainy... Any info/comments will be appreciated.

out of those i think the BFG drag radial will be your best bet. but the nitto drag radial 555r is a better daily driver radial than BFG.

when you say better daily driver, do you mean because of not wearing out as fast or better because of all around traction?

The Nitto will last much longer! But they are the smallest 315 and really look narrow on an 11" wheel.

I don't have as much power as you, but I chose the BFG drag radials. I rarely drive my car so it doesn't matter as much how long they last. Also the BFG DRs will hook better.

If you could find someone that had Mickey Thompson drag radials in stock..I'd definitely get those...but when I was looking for 315s they were backordered for awhile.

I wouldn't put a BFG on my car if someone gave them too me!! I have ran them before and they never hooked and got HORRIBLE mileage.

I run Nitto's on the car right now for DD and they are great tires. Hook decent and get great mileage. I am thinking however about switching to Mickey's after I get the Dana in the car.

What do you do with the car?? If you drive it OFTEN I would go with some Nitto's in a 315/35R17. If it is more of a weekend car/nice weather car then I would go with the Mickey's. Only down side is I believe that the Mickey's are still on nationwide backorder.

Man, I know you guys hate on Nitto alot, but I run 275/40/17s. With about 460whp M6 it does pretty well. The tires are at about 50% and still hook if I hit it at about 4K in second gear, more than that they blow the treads off. 1st gear of course is laughable. But I am going to switch to the 315/35s and see how they fair. I would really like to be able to remotely hook at full POWA in 2nd gear and come off the line in 1st. But have conceded thats hard to do with that kind of hp and 4.10 gears on the skreet.

My 275 555r's snapped my stock DS at the track, great tires that hook well and last long.

Ive had success with the 315 Nitto 555R but its just so damn skinny for a 315.... I'm about to replace them with the BFG KDs that i got on ebay a few weeks ago and i have heard great things about those, and my neighbor has them on his vette and has been happy.

Problem is the KDs are discontinued... other than that ebay deal i couldnt find them. GSD3s are the ****, but they are on nationwide backorder with no F'n estimated make date. So that really narrows down your choices for now. hope that helps a little...

If you're looking for just all out traction and not worried about getting 10k miles out of them. Wait for the Mickey Thompsons to get off of backorder.

Looking at different websites - it says the Nitto 555R have a section width of 12.1, GSD3's are 12.3, BFG Drag Radials are 12.4, M/T ET Streets are 12.7. I like the sound of the Nitto's since they hook pretty good and last awhile, but I hate to have went to the trouble/expense of getting 11" wheels on the back and end up with a tire that doesn't look right on them. The M/T's sound great too, but I'm wondering how they do when getting caught 20 miles from home in a rain storm. Anyone have any pic's from the rear of the Nitto's, M/T's, BFG's or ?? I found some using search, but it doesn't tell what tires they are.

im in the same dilhema i have 275/40r17 m/t drag radials on my 9.5 wheels and i just bought 17x11 wheels so now im searching for tires...but i prob wont buy m/t drag radials for the street they wear out very fast, they DO NOT corner well at all and are down right scary when worn and caught in rain...but then again thats why im keeping my m/t's on 9.5 wheels for when i need them

What about the new TOYO TQ drag radials? I hear some good things with them.

There is NOTHING wrong with the look of a Nitto on a 11" wheel.

Here's my car for example - Nitto 555R 315/35/17 on a 11" ZR1.

I LOVE the Nittos. For me, they hold 480whp no problem on the street and my last set lasted nearly 12k miles....They ride great and I've no issue with loss of traction in the rain... so, I'm sold on Nitto.

I concurr with ATLSS.. I have had nothing but good experience with the Nitto 555's.. Narrow? small? I set mine right next to a GY GSD3 and there is not much difference @ all.. Great all around tire imo..

Looks small doesn't it?

I'm running GS-D3's I like them a lot and have zero traction issues, but I also run a lot less hp then a lot of these guys, so it's pretty relative.
