DIY Black Wheels, what paint? tips/suggestions
Rims: 2006 Silver (NOT polished/chrome) C6 18/19 Rims (OEM)
I want them gloss black, but I do not want to pay a shop to do it.
What paint will hold up the best? I wash my car alot, also I need to take into consideration that the rims may get hot in the summer + driving/braking.
What prep should I take? Just aim and spray? Fine grit sandpaper + wetsand?
Thanks

I did mine. Sorry no pics. I cleaned them really good, then tapped off the lip there I wanted to keep it silver. Sanded with 220 lighly to get a nice surface then hit the hard to get to areas with a scotchbrite. I used Rustoleum. Several light coats. I painted on a warm day outside so the light coats dried pretty quick. I did the inside of the wheel first.
Turned out really nice, noone believed i used a rattle can.

I emailed GMMG a bit ago about painting my wheels a certain color. They gave me thew color code and suggested I use "Etching Primer" before the paint. I called a local shop to see if they had any and the man I spoke to informed me that etching primer is old school, and you can just use epoxy. I'm not sure if this helps at all, but maybe you can research it a bit and find out what's what.

I pretty much did the same as the above thread. I painted mine about 2.5 years ago now.. they are on their 3 set of tires in that time and have over 20K on them. no prblems with chipping, peeling or anything.

just prep them very well, maybe even use an adhesive promoter if necessary, the paint section has a couple write ups that might be a little more helpful
