Default Tire Sizing Question (275/40/17)

When I bought this 2000 Z28 last year it had 255/45/17's all around and I replced them a few months ago with 275/40/17's all around because I've seen it a few places where those were an upgrade option with the 17" rims.

I've been having an intermittent chirping that I thought was the brakes, but now I'm wondering if it could be the tires rubbing since I went to the 275/40/17's - and it seemed to have started a few days after that. Brake pads and rotors are all 6 months old and have been lubed, sprayed, etc.

Thanks.

I would'nt think 275's is the problem, being there's a lot of guys Lowered 2", I think it is another problem, not the tires.

No reason they should be rubbing with those on your stock wheels.

your issue has nothing to do with tires.

what type of pads/rotors are you running? are the caliper slides greased?

Since the 275s are a little wider, and your noise seems to have started after you installed them, this might be part of your problem. When does this noise appear? When turning or going over dips in the road? Is your car lowered? if so, does it have an adjustable panhard bar, so you can center the rear axle? Are the wheels stock or aftermarket? If aftermarket, the offset might not be quite right.

If it happens over dips in the road while going straight, it just might be a tire rub, due to the rear tire rubbing the outer fender. If it happens while turning, it could be the front tire rubbing the inner fenders, at the leading edge. Any evidence of rubbing on the sidwalls of any of the tires?
