Default Nitto 555rs with Stock Rearend

How much of a mistake is it to run 315 555rs on a stock rear end? The car is basically stock, other than headers/exhaust. I love the looks of the Nittos and i want a narrow 315 to go on my TT2 M's. I'm just not into the look of having your tires sticking way out My other choices may be the Vredsteins or the Sumi's HTZ II.

I run the nittos on my ttII's. 315s on 9.5 rim. If you look up the mesurments nittos 315 is about the same as a 285 bfg. I havn't had any problems yet as far as breakage but knock on wood. You should be ok though. Imo a nitto is in between a street tire and a d/r. They'll be all the stock rear end wants if your at the track alot

Its not gonna hurt the rear end cause your only running a few bolt ons, I had several sets of the Nitto's (315's) on my car and ran those for about 3 years with no problems at all.

Nitto 555R drag radial + stock rear end + warm pavement = Broken stock rear end

That's how it worked for me anyway...

BUUUTTT it depends on how hard you drive it ofcoarse. I had cam and heads though.

You should be fine, just watch out for that clink clink clink sound

My 315's worked great on my stock bolt on 97 Bird.

But on my 400RWHP 96 LE2 Bird, they shattered the rear.

I think the 400 HP had something to do with it though....

get some bfg's or m/t just dont put it to the floor from a stop to 25 if ur worried about breaking it.. i ran nittos on my car didnt do to much for me on a 275 and 500+hp stock 10 bolt still... got some 15" m/t's so it might break at the track now.. what ever tire you run just keep the 60' above 1.55 and u'll be fine for a while.

here is the big reason why a nitto 555R will work for you as long as you dont abuse your car...... they are the worst drag radial every made if you are wanting to win races...... but if you are just wanting something a lil softer than a street tire that can get more miles out of and safer for street driving than the nitto is for you.....
noty a bad tire though just not gonna break stuff anything like a sticky tire would.....but an a different note the 10 bolt can be broken with regular tires just power shifting, it dont take sticky tires or extra horse power although i have had good luck with my 10 bolts never damaging any, but im lucky lol...... so in reality the nitto will make it a higher chance but not anything like putting on a sticky tire...... good luck

That's a pretty bold statement there. My 400 RWHP bird hooked pretty damn good with them on the street. Good enough to shatter TWO rear ends. I have a full BMR suspension and dropped the psi to around 20 and did a very healthy burnout. I would hardly spin in 1st and 'bark' 2nd gear.

I honestly think they are one of the better drag radials out there. They are far better than BFG's but not as good as the Mickey's.

But for something that gets driven a lot and no have to worry about driving in the rain, the Nitto's are the way to go.

I'll strap on the Mickeys on my Welds when the time comes.

so your telling me that a nitto555R is better than a BFG drag radial? hey i aint gonna say you are BS for saying that cause im sure you have your reasons and i respect your opinion but you are the ONLY person i have ever heard say that and i happen to be a pretty big car guy in a decent size area of other car guys... but to each is own and i totally respect your opinion, i just dont agree with it...... but hey thats the way it goes

I don't know about that. My BFGs hook way, way, way better than either set of my nittos ever did. But hey, it is two completely different setups on two different cars...

yes and thats why i wasnt gonna say anything..... i mean he might have his suspension setup for them to work better who knows...... but anyone who has aactually had both sets and drag races alot should know which one will give you 1.5 60 foot times and which one will give you 1.8s if you are lucky lol but rock on with the nittos cause like i said they do work, they do last longer, they will save your rearend longer, and they do act better when you hit a water spot in the road....they just wont win you ANY races at the drag strip or will only win you SOME in the street

If you have 17's. Nitto also makes the 555 Extreme in a 315.35.17. Since you are basically stock this could be a better daily driving tire for you. (Depending on how hard you drive it.) Tires They're not quite as sticky as the 555R but the tread is similar and will last longer.... (in stock.)
