Default Wheel spacer or adaptors good idea?

Hey guys!.. and gals!
I am going to be lowering my 01 ss about 2" and was wondering if I should get some wheel spacers to widen the stance? but first I wanted to know if it is safe to do? or will anything break. Any reasons not to do it? Or does anyone have any Pictures??

I've always heard that it depends on the type of spacers that you use, and also if it's in moderation. Hubcentric and something not to large should work just fine.

1" is pretty wide. But if you got a quality spacer and used stronger studs, i would imagine it being ok. Spacers/adapters do put more stress on wheel bearings however. Would probably just have to change them a little sooner than others. I myselp am running a 5/16" spacer and 2.5" ARP studs and I'm pretty confident there wont be any problems for me. But i am no expert.

I also run spacers, 7/16'' but have ARP longer wheel studs. No problems.

So lowering 2" with 1" spacers all around? What wheels/tires are you using? Definitely lower the car beforehand and see exactly how much room you have. My guess is, if you're using OE style wheels, you wont have any room for spacers.

if you're looking to widen the stance from a performance standpoint, i wouldn't bother. the small amount of extra width you get from wheel spacers you would get would not improve the performance enough to warrant the extra time & effort, as well as the extra stress you'd put on the wheel bearings for it to really be worth it. just lowering the car will lower the center of gravity enough to make it a far better performance upgrade than the widened wheel stance would.

however, if you're looking to do it for appearance reasons, then just get the car lowered and see how it looks first.....then if you don't like it, you can always still widen it later.

even then, you could probably just get new wheels with a slightly smaller positive offset to move the edge of the wheel outwards a bit, without having to go through the trouble of using spacers and possibly having to use longer wheels studs.
