Caked on brake dust
Do to my on fault this winter my polished zr1's built up a lil' bit of brake dust on them. I did a couple searchs and saw that some simple green and some 0000 steel wool would clean them up. i just worry that the steel wool is gonna scratch them up. Is it safe to use the steel wool and simple green if diluted with water. Is there any other method of cleaning them? thanx for any help.

not just no, but HELL no on the steel wool. don't even use a scotch-brite pad on polished wheels.
just use the diluted simple green and a SOFT sponge to get the dust off, then powerball/aluminum polish to bring back the shine.
just don't leave the simple green on for more than 5 - 6 mins, or it can start to corrode the wheels and pit them.
