Default peeling chrome on 10 spoke SS rims?

hey guys I have a set of 10 spoke SS rims. I got them for a hell of deal so I couldn't pass them up. These are going to be my off season wheels, I'd still like them to be presentable so I want to repair them. Anyways the chrome is peeling off in certain areas, or patches of it if you want to say that. Not so much on the face of the wheel but inside of it. Is there anything I can do hear? I was thinking of peeling the crap off, sanding/cleaning the bad area and hitting it some duplicolor chrome paint? Is this for ****? Is there a better repair. I'd like to avoid having them professionally redone, because these are for the winter not like my summer wheels. Any help is greatly appreciated.
