Default Anyone running Sumitomo HTR Z's

Tire Rack has them ranking fairly decent and the price is low for 275/40-17 and 315/35-17's. TomZWheels also has them listed at a good price. Anyone out there have practical experience with them. Good things don't come cheap so I'm hesitant.

You can relax . These are damn good tires that are a great bargin. I got mine from Tire Rack . Of all the tires I have purchased over all these many years these are the ONLY ones that required NO wheel weights and are perfectly balanced . 15,000 miles of street racing & there's still plenty of tread left . Actually , I want to hurry up & wear them out so I can get some TTII's with 275/40/17's .

I ran the HTR ZII a couple years back, they were decent tires for the price. They had great grip when new, but as soon as they started to wear I started slipping alot when trying to take-off. Have not had any experience with the I or II though. I switched from the Nittos I had because they were too hard of a compound and not getting any grip. Right now I have some Falken tires just because I am tired of spending an arm and leg for tires and I am very surprised with them...had them for alittle of a year now and no complaints.

I'm running the HTRZ's now and they are not bad. The wet traction is not so great, but for the price you can't beat them.

I've had the same tires on two different cars since August.

No complaints here either and they were shipped to my door for $410

I had those tires for about a year and they sucked. They were really nice when I first got them, but after a few months they refused to stick, dry or wet. After about 10 months they wouldn't hold air. I just scraped em and got BFG's, which I'm still using. BFG is the bomb.

The old ones suck, the new version 3's on the other hand seem to be great. The HTRZ2's are no better than my Raptor ZR's.

Yeah. You really can't beat sumitomo's bang for the buck.

90% of the people that say anything bad about sumi's either

a. Have never ran them.
b. bought expensive *** tires (bfgs, gsd3s, pilots, ect) and wanna validate their light wallet by putting down a cheaper tire.
c. bought them thinking that sumis are a track tire.

They are def not a track tire and def won't stick like some nittos. But for 90 bucks a pop and the cheap *** shipping from tire rack. You can't ******* beat them hands down and thats the truth. Also, they stick pretty good after you heat them up a bit.

sumi has 3 different type of htr z's....ones more of a all weather tire, another has just a v-groove design, and the third is a mix

Thanks guys for all the input. I have compared a lot of tires, for AR TT-M's 17X9 F and 17X10.5 R wheels the BFG KD's are 2.5X the cost of HTRZ's , the BFG KDW's don't come wider than a 285, the HTRZ II's and III's do not come wider than a 275. From your responses it sounds like the HTRZ's handle and do the job during early tire/tread life. In my situation, I don't run it at a strip, drive only 3-4K miles a year on sunny days, I can throw the HTRz's away every 4 years and come out OK. For $400.00 + shipping, mounting, etc it's probably worth trying, if they suck I'll put it in my lessens learned pile.

You couldn't be more wrong my friend. Like I said I ran Sumitomo tires before I got BFG KDWS's. Those tires SUCKED and there's a reason for that. You get what you pay for. Seriously, go buy some BFG's and tell me the Sumi's are still the best bang for the buck, I dare you.

Don't get me wrong, the Sumitomo tires will get you through, but if your considering really putting tires on your rims, go with something a little more expensive. You won't regret it.

Sumitomo = cheap, plain and simple.

You get what you pay for. The treadwear is only about 160, so they don't last long and run skinny like a nitto.

Have them and spin through 4th lol. Decent daily driven tire but there are much better gripping tires out there.

HTRZ's for the price are a pretty decent tire. 315's are not a wet weather fan but I like them in the wet compared to other brands I've tried. Dry traction is pretty good when new but when worn, the suffer a bit. Overall, I like them and I'm on my third set. You get more mileage than the 160 rating makes you think (if you stay off the throttle )

I say , for the money you simply can't go wrong . Especially for the price . Plus they are very aggressive looking with a nice tread pattern . Like the man said , their over-engineered and under-rated . You WILL find that they are WAAY better than what you expected because of their low price . Not many items advertised & then purchased turn out to be better, much better than expected . You won't be disappointed .
