315s Up Front?
I am thinking of getting a new set of front wheels with 315 wide tires up front for road corse and auto-x in my T/A. I already have 315 Nitto 555R DRs out back with 275 Firestone Wide Ovals up front. I plan to ditch the Wide Ovals for some 555RIIs with the stiffer sidewall up front. I should probably swap the 555R DRs as well, but I will probably just wait until they wear out. My question to anyone who has 315s all around is, how are the rubbing and clearance issues? Did you have to do anything special to get them to clear? What wheel offset did you use? Is it really worth it for the extra contact patch or should I just stick with another set of 275s?

I had 315's on all 4's with my old 02 SS. There is a good deal more room up front vs the rear. Way back when (when I owned the SS) there was a guy on here running 325's on all 4 corners. It looked like a steam roller

What about the backspacing, does anyone know what is the right amount? I have the 17x9's up front so I guess I will need to trade them for some more 17x10.5's like I have in the rear.

Just a dumb question, but why would you want tires that large up front when you have no need for traction up there? Maybe if you were doing autoxing but still too large a tire for good control, as there is a reason that they stagger setup sports cars like the Corvette, Porsche, Ferrari etc.. from the factory for better handling in corners and acceleration with larger rear tires.
IMHO, don't do it as it will handle like crap and look the same way.

national champions (one of the few classes that are allowed to run those sizes) run that size at all four corners, right??
A straight line, drag racing setup mindset DOES NOT work for turning left and right and braking with these VERY front heavy cars.

Its possible, but Sam's springs arent as big of a drop as most. Also I think the offest would play an important role in reducing rubbing in the front. I have seen a good number of autox guys doing it and that was what kind of application he was referring to and I would assume most of those guys are running lowering springs such as the Strano's. So can you just throw them on there, probably not. But with the right offset I would say rubbing wouldnt be as bad as you make think.
A good person to ask would probably be Sam as maybe he could tell you what size tire he is running when racing.

IF he had the car 'slammed' on Sportlines or such, then yes, there might be problems.
But not on a properly set up/backspaced, etc. autocross/road race deal.
And DAVE00, SORRY if I came off like an a-hole in that response.
I just get upset when I hear bad info (as concerns handling/turning) about our rides and said handling mods.
