Default Which width of MT Street Radial on my 17" rims

I have a pair of 17" SLP-labeled wheels, 9.5" in width. I would like to mount MT Street Radials on them. The stickies say that 285 (a virtually non-existent size) is the widest that will fit on a 9.5" wheel. But the ads I have read say that a 295 MT ET Street Radial will fit on that rim. What is going on? Does it run small? I know my Nitto 555Rs did. Or should I play it safe and get the 275s? Traction is an issue, since the car may have well over 500 rwhp when complete.
And the fronts will be running 255/50/16 Firestone SZ50 tires, so I would like to keep the diameter close so the ABS will continue to work.
Thanks in advance.

Vehicle is not lowered, nor will it ever be lowered. Just trying to do the correct thing for a) The width of the wheels, and b) The diameter of the front and the rear tires matching as close as possible so the ABS continues to function correctly.
Thanks again.
