Default 16" vs 17" wheels and tires

I've been trying to decide for the last few months whether to upgrade to 17" wheels from my stock 16" five-stars. I guess I'm one of the few people who like the five-stars. My question for you wheel/tire experts is, does it make a HUGH difference (other than appearance) in going from 16" wheels and tires to 17"? Also, what is the largest 16" tire that will fit on the five-stars?

Largest tire for 16's is 255/50.

The main difference is appearance. The ride tends to be harsher with 17's because of the shorter sidewall on the tire, and will be more so if the wheels are heavier. Don't expect huge gains in grip or anything like that.

For the same sidewall height the cornering ought to
be pretty similar. At the same diameter though, 16
will have more sidewall and be squirmier (but maybe
hook better). Seems to be less tire options out there
as you go up in diameter and the price gets worse.
If you go to larger diameter, you can expect to see
a slight reduction in acceleration for the same motor
torque. All things to consider, what matters most to
you?
