17" ET Streets or 16" Slicks?
I looked at the stickies, and searched....to no avail. I ran a set of used 17" ET Streets last year and liked them....I cut 1.63's with Bilstein suspension. Now I am getting ready to buy new ones and I don't which to use. I have a set of 17" WS6 wheels and a set of 16" TA wheels. These will only be run at the track...they will be bolted on after I arrive.
Should I run the 17" ET Streets or the 26X11.50X16 slicks? What is the difference going to be between them and why should I choose 1 over the other? I appreciate any feedback...I know questions get asked all the time about this stuff, but I can't find the answers I need. I'm still not sure what the differences are between the ET Streets, ET Street Radials and the slicks. I just want the best hooking tire for my car. Thanks....

You will go faster on the radial because you can run more air in them than the slick. Auto cars seem to work very well with radials. MM cut 60's in the 1.4x range with 17" MT DR's I do believe

well at the track you'll want to use a slick if you're pulling really low 60's... drag radials create a huge shock to the driveline whenever you launch them off the line out of a dig. but with like an et street bias ply, it will have more "play," you could say in the tire and won't be as hard on your driveline.
but yeah, i'd probably still go with a DR with an auto.. probably won't break it unless you're making lots of power.

My car did about the same on either size. My current set of race tires is 26/10.5/16 ET Street, not street radial. Before I put the cam in it pulled great 60' on 17" drag radials. I actually have pulled the same best on the 16 ET Streets and 275/40/17 Nittos.
If my engine had not taken a **** on me, I would have gone back to a 17" tire, but maybe the 17" ET Street bias.
The thing is, a radial usually pulls a little more MPH, but the bias tires are usually much lighter. Each pound of rotational mass is equal to about 7 pounds of static weight.

my car did awsome on 17" ET Streets (bias, NOT radials). i ran around 13psi and cut 1.5xx 60's with a 9" and cam/bolt-ons. if it were me, i'd put good street tires on my 17's and use the 16's for track. the 16" wheels will allow for a little bigger sidewall on the tire.

The larger the sidewall the better. I would assume that the 16'' would have more sidewall. My 255/50/16's i cut 1.5x on motor with a best 1.55 60'. The more sidewall you have, the more flex in the tire. The less sidewall the stiffer the tire. That's why 15 is most widely used to give the most sidewall usage.
