Default long trip what tires to use

I am making a trip to phoenix via los angeles from seattle 1500ish miles

I have 2 sets of rims and tires that are going with me.

225 55 16 on 16x8's
275 40 17 and 18s on 03 vette wheels

If i run the thinner tires will i see a noticeable/measurable difference in mileage as opposed to the 275's due to less rolling resistance.

I am asking due to if i can get 2-3 mpg better on the thinner tires then it will be worth it to me to run them.

opinions????

thanks

Run the 16's. Less rotational weight and less rolling resistance = better mileage.

I agree. Plus, since I always worry about crap like this, if you get a flat tire on the road, and need a replacement, the 16" tire probably would be easier to find.

If you are taking both sets with I say run the 17/18 set. The roads out there are usually in pretty good shape and full of twists and turns, and once you hit AZ they flatten out, and its hard to resist opening it up every now and then.

Run the 16s for mileage. They are ever so slightly taller (783 revolutions / mile vs 786 for the 17s), and they're lighter weight and less rolling resistance. I don't know how much of a difference it will make, but they will definitely give better mileage than the 17s.

If you're taking both sets with you, you can always swap on the 17s for some fun driving if desired.
