The Smoking Tire Takes On 757-Horsepower Callaway Corvette Aerowagon

Matt Farah drives the 757-horsepower Corvette wagon of our dreams.

In this One Take on The Smoking Tire, Matt Farah drives the (only) Callaway C7 Corvette Aerowagon with some gusto in Southern California’s Angeles Forest. The Aerowagon adds a shooting-brake style roofline to the C7 that makes it stand out. However, Farah discovers that the real joy behind the new Callaway comes from the “757 Package.” That option turns the already-powerful C7 Z06 into a road-eating, 757-horsepower beast.

Farah comments that the $15,000 Aerowagon changes only the appearance, really. Callaway builds the Aerowagon for all C7 Corvettes, but the real value comes—as you’d expect from the tuner—with horsepower. For the Z06, that includes a bigger supercharger and intercooler that bump power and torque numbers by more than 100. The 6.2-liter LT4 engine makes 757 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque in Callaway trim. For the Stingray, the “627 Package” kicks the LT1 up to 627 and 610, respectively.

Most amazingly, Callaway offers all of this with their own warranty and the upgrade meets California’s CARB laws. The Z06 power kit checks in at around $18,000, which represents a screaming deal to make a car that will get to 60 from a dead stop in 2.8 seconds and run the quarter-mile in the mid-10s on street tires. Farah suspects that it should also be able to put up big numbers as-is in the standing mile.

How does it drive? Well, Farah says a lot about its driving capabilities, but in short, Callaway has built turned the Z06 into a borderline-frightening missile. Nevertheless, they’ve left the suspension alone and that gives a refined feel. The Aerowagon achieves warp speed in no time at all, which can make it a handful for anyone but seasoned drivers. The Aerowagon is not for the feint of heart nor the slow to react. Nevertheless, it does exactly what it should do for the money: Slings a C7 around with crazy power.
