Chevy’s New Camaro GT4.R Racer Is Straight up Sexy
New, Improved, and Hotter Than Ever Camaro Racer Is Ready to Compete With the Big Boys. But Can It?
The Pirelli World Challenge and Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge are two of the hottest and most ruthless sports car racing series in North America. With factory racing teams from McLaren, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, and of course Ford, the new-generation Camaro racer will have its work cut out.
Titled the GT4.R, this gorgeous and chiseled race machine is what American sports car dreams are made of. Powered by a massive and naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter LT1 V8 motor, it sends power to the rear wheels via six-speed sequential automatic transmission. As these photos by Chevy indicate, the GT4.R will rely heavily on aerodynamically efficient body work to fight the Europeans at their own game. Other specifications like horsepower, torque, and performance figures haven’t been released, but based on the Chevy SS with a similar 455-horsepower engine, we can expect a 0-60 mph time of under 3.8 seconds.
Chevrolet’s new contender will make its race debut at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, where the Pirelli World Challenge and Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge will run as support series to the Verizon Indycar series.
