Three recreations from three iconic Burt Reynolds movies join a promotional car in a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The world truly lost an icon when legendary actor Burt Reynolds passed away recently. But this is an especially large loss for the automotive enthusiast community. A group that seemingly worshiped Reynolds for his most famous role as Bo “Bandit” Darville in Smokey and the Bandit. It was a movie that quite simply shaped a generation, gave us hope in a time of performance hell. And turned the Pontiac Trans Am and its screaming chicken into a superstar. All in one felt swoop.

Sadly, all of the cars used in the filming of Smokey and the Bandit were destroyed for liability reasons. But over the years, we’ve seen a number of recreations and a promotional Trans Am go for big money. Reynold’s friend and business partner Gene Kennedy of Bandit Movie Cars Florida also worked with the actor to painstakingly recreate three of those vehicles. And even before his passing, Burt Reynolds had planned on selling each of them at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas on September 27-29.

The first of that lot, of course, is the unmistakable black and gold 1978 Trans Am. Everything about the car, from the tires to the CB radio and scanner, is exactly like the movie car. The second, red ’78 is a faithful replica of the Retro-Rocket from the 1978 film Hooper.

A 1978 Chevy truck from the 1981 flick The Cannonball Run rounds out the star-studded trio. Joining those iconic recreations is the 1984 Trans Am used by Burt Reynolds to promote his USFL team, the Tampa Bay Bandits.

Before his passing, Reynolds was simply trying to sell these cars in an attempt to downsize his massive car collection. Now, they’re going to provide folks with a rare, final opportunity to own a piece of his legacy. One we hope to keep alive for many years to come!
