Grand Tour Teasers Show Lots of Love for Detroit V8s
‘Detroit is heaven.’ Says Jeremy Clarkson through clouds of tire smoke. We agree.
Detroit recently became a bit louder in June when the hosts of the Grand Tour show on Amazon came through for a taste of all things V8.
Pushing out decibel numbers and creating smoke were a trio of USA’s most menacing muscle cars. Ford was represented by an RTR Mustang, Mopar was represented by a Challenger Demon, and GM’s slice of the pie was through a Hennessey Exorcist Camaro.
Utilizing closed streets around Detroit’s old Packard plant, the trio had their share of fun with smoke-filled burnouts and squealing tires, although considering the machinery at hand, that wasn’t too hard to accomplish.
Of course, the car we’re most interested in is the Camaro. Hennessey’s Exorcist – all 1000 horsepower of it – might not be the most powerful car ever tested by the former Top Gear hosts, but in this test, the Exorcist is the clear horsepower champion. And who better to be behind the wheel than Captain Slow himself.
Filming of season three is obviously well under way according to M Live of Michigan, though it’s still to be seen the way this muscle car episode would pan out. As is the usual case, they’ll likely have a list of challenges each car will face, and it’s easy to assume performance will be the main factor. However, in the midst of all the V8 thunder and show filming, one of Jeremy Clarkson’s own Instagram posts hails the Motor City as “heaven.” For a journalist who travels the world and sees the most exotic of places, that’s some very high praise.
Though the Grand Tour‘s audience spans the globe, we can be sure that the thunderous V8s which set us apart will be shown in the show’s typically brilliant fashion.
