Grand Prix GTP Slays 500 WHP Mustang Cobra (Video)

Turbo’d Grand Prix GTP puts an easy gap on a Terminator Mustang. Not to mention a few other various rides.

Common logic might tell you that a factory derived performance car should easily outrun a front-wheel drive sedan in most instances. Especially when it’s a car with a reputation for doing so. Did we mention said car turns out a claimed 500 hp at the wheels? And yes, we’re referring to the venerable Mustang Cobra. A car celebrated by a large portion of America’s population. Yet one that also has a bit of a reputation among our members here at LS1Tech.

In this case, the part of the slayer is played by none other than a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. Based on the homely four door sedan that has become one of the world’s most forgotten automobiles since its (and Pontiac’s) demise. The performance sedan that could came from the factory with a hot(ter) powerplant, albeit not by today’s standards. Yet, as we all know, forced induction can solve a lot of problems.

And in this case it does, as the GTP “terminates” the Terminator several times in a video posted by forum member RedFuryZ28. And undoubtedly, everyone is pretty impressed. “Sweet GTP…pulling pretty hard up top. I would have thought the Cobra would have started to creep back but it seemed the pull was pretty steady. Wonder what mods the GTP had,” MACHXLR8 says. “Sounded like there was a turbo involved there,” notes ZNix.

Indeed, the Pontiac is using a bit of forced induction, according to RedFuryZ28. “Just a turbo @ 15 psi on the stock L67 V6 engine. Grand Prix GTP Slays 500 WHP Mustang Cobra (Video) It’s a ******* fail wheel drive grocery getter, with a stock motor, waxing the *** of one of furd’s most prized possessions. A high modded one to boot.”

Of course, the forums are ripe with examples of the “legendary” GTP taking down various unsuspecting prey. Like a certain 2010 Mustang GT that got embarassed by gixper.

“Well I left work early yesterday due to the crud that I caught from my kids and I was on my way to the drug store to pick up some…well…..drugs. So I’m sitting at the red light behind a 2010 Mustang GT waiting patiently for the light to turn green. As I’m waiting I could see this young kid’s entire face in his rearview mirror eying me. I rarely get an opportunity to get some action so I will not let this one get away.

So the light turns green and he takes off like a bat out of hell and I follow. We get on the freeway with me behind him and he never slows down to let me get even. He just keeps the hammer down. He had about 2 cars on me at about 60…by 70 I stop his pull and start reeling him in…by 100 my fender is at his qtr panel and by 120 I have 2 cars on him.

I had to brake hard as traffic was coming up and this douche passes the traffic on the shoulder….so I guess he won?? Idiot…but it was a thrill…thought those cars were much faster. Think it was an auto didn’t look like he was yanking any gears…stock I’m sure…still had the paper plates and was very quiet. Chalk one up for the sideways V8!”

And this entertaining story from Srt4King.

“I replaced my SRT4 with a modded 99 GTP, smaller pulley, ubend delete, xp cam, headers, catback, shift kit, tune ect ect.

Yesterday some dumbass that is my brother’s friend was talking **** about my Grand Prix. Talking about how he could give me 3 cars from a 40 roll and put 5 cars on me by 120 or so. HAHAHA I thought, so we went out to run them.

We raced 3 times, the first time he gave me the 3 cars, and I added about 4-5 more on the way to 120. The next runs after that he self smarted himself and decided to run straight up. And on both runs I put about 6 cars on him each time. After the runs ***** didn’t talk **** no more, and was really cool with me. Fast cars earn respect where I come from, so I’m happy I got myself a Pontiac nowGrand Prix GTP Slays 500 WHP Mustang Cobra (Video). He said his mods were a lid, full exhaust, 3.73 gears, and a tune.

Next up on my kill list is my friends STI.”

Whether you’re a fan of the GTP or not, there are plenty of awesome videos and tales to scope out in the Street Racing & Kill Stories sub forum, so be sure and check them out. And if you’ve got a killer video or story to share, be sure and add it to the list!
