Looking to go deeper in the 10's: Advice needed.
My 97 S10 has a 421 l stroker, 350 turbo, 8" 4500 stall, 8.8 rear with 4.30 gears and 29.5 slicks. The truck runs 10.42 consistently with a 1400rpm footbrake launch and 15 gallons of gas in the cell. The problem is I cannot go any higher on my launch rpm or run with less than 13 gallons of fuel without absolutely blistering the tires (the torque is insane
). I'm considering going to a powerglide over the winter and my thoughts are that I will be able to launch at a much higher rpm and carry a lot less fuel. I know the powerglide will help my launch but would the 2 speed help or hurt my overall 1/4 mile?

At your weight and power level I do not think a PG would be the right choice.
I would look into losing weight somewhere (mainly up front...battery move to rear ?)
More stall ?
More rear tire ?
Shock set-up ?

You just need tires/suspension. From your pic you need a good rear bar to let the front wheels go up together. I cracked the frame in my 496CID SS Chevelle doing that and got lousy traction. If you want torque there's N2O and a glide(peanut butter and jelly). Will be seeing you in the 9's soon!

Thanks for the responses. The battery is in the bed, I have 90/10 shocks up front and coilovers in the back and I installed a anti roll bar a few weeks back and the truck launching perfectly level now. I've tried many different tires and the 29.5 x 10 is the biggest tire I can fit under it without tubbing it. I think I'm gonna go ahead and try a powerglide.

New FTI powerglide being built with a custom gear set to correct my starting line ratio. Can't wait to try it.
