Default 11.10 @ 122 2000 c5 a4

Hey all,

Bought this car last year in Sept with the goal of 11.40. First pass last year, stock with CAI and Borla axle back was 13.05 @ 107.

I bought the car real right, read real cheap for a C5 ($10K w/78k miles) and started buying used parts here and on the vette forum. The things vette guys give away........

Pretty much took the whole car apart over the winter and did the mods. One car garage no less. My first LS and first Vette. I do all of my own work. Well, I didn't build the trans.

Got it running Jul 1 this summer and it has been my daily driver since.
Been rubbing on the tune with help from CTD here on the forums, and HPT. very fun stuff.

Here is a time slip from tonight, spinning. Street legal night, so only get track prep at the start of the eve and with a parade of street and fwd cars, it lasts about 2 runs. But then, they pay the same money to play as I do.

I use Hoosier 245/45/17 drag radials. Car weighs 3450 or so with me in it.

The best of the night was an 11.100...damn! But here is the next best.

And the car.

I'm 57 years young, and having a blast with this car.

Great time. What RPM are you leaving at? What kind of power are you putting down? I love seeing the C5's haulin' a** down the track. On the right day, with good track prep I see a 10 in your future.

Thanks. I tried 1300-1600, but once the track was gone, it didn't matter. I chose the wrong size tire I'm afraid.
No clue on the power, we are tuning on the drag strip.

Excellent times! I'm shooting for around those times with a stall/head/cam set-up myself. Car is about 100-150lbs heavier then yours at the track. I am impressed by the number's with that small of cam. I am planning a good bit bigger, but may back it down a little bit after seeing your times.

Thanks! The C5 Coupe is about 150 heavier than the Z06 and FRC models, but those have to be converted to A4's.
I'm sure it's hard to get weight out of a GTO w/o ruining the car. And of course to go bottom 11's, you have to put in a roll bar so add the weight right back in.

FWIW, I looked at GTO's. I like them a lot. But they cost more than my car by quite a bit, at least what was available when I was browsing.

I told Pat G. What I wanted to do, so he did good on the little cam!

Good luck with your project!

Well, for street use, I'm at about 3540, with nothing noticeable removed. For the track, I cut down about another 120-150 if I'm going for a PB. I weigh 180, so on PB days, I'm in the mid to high 3500's. Right now, I'm doing my top-end. If I do the cam myself, i will do heads now, if not, the heads will wait. I've got full bolt-ons, and a FAST 102. I plan on some AI ported 243's, or some PRC or Patriot ported 243's. I got a cam Spec'd by CSP, for my top-end, and a 100-125 shot of Nitrous. They spec'd me a 232-240. He did say I could go to something like a 228-235 for more torque. He said they would work good NA too, but the bigger split for the Nitrous. After your times, I may go for that 228/235.

And thank you for the compliment (not everyone like's GTO's). Removing the gas tank brace, towing brace, skid playe, metal between rear seats and trunk, and emptying the trunk, really helps, plus the weight saved through doing the bolt-ons, cut's over 200lbs off the weight.

Edit, I do need to get weighed, because all my weight estimates, are based of the GTO curb weight, which I hear is with a full tank of gas. I run 1/3 to 1/4 tank all the time. So my weights could be less.

I'm hoping the LS2 can help with the 150lb or so weight difference between us. Vette's do, however, have a better platform. Wider tires are capable, more aerodynamic, and we have an IRS.

Congrats on a great run! You must have felt great when you found out the time and reached your goal (and then some!). Very nice car and great job putting it together with a goal in mind.

Awesome to hear!

All you have to do it get her to dead hook in good air and you're solid 10's.

Hey guys.
Went out last night, good air with high hopes. They didn't prep at all and all I did was smoke the tires off the line. Horrible feeling when you expect it to hook.
Cool weather, and they flood the burnout box, allow the fwd street tire cars in the water, might as well have raced in a car wash.

Sigh. So the last few weeks have netted good ET's, but spun most runs and the hooking, hopping, hooking took it's toll on the driveline couplers and now have bad vibes so my season is over.

Sucks because I bought a nice C5 drag pack that will arrive Wed. In time to go in the spare room.

So get out your violins for me.....waaaaaaa.

That ten will have to wait till next year.

BTW....where is my 11 sec club membership????

So, I threw caution to the wind and went back despite driveshaft woes. For whatever reason, never felt a vibe! ????

Anyway, put the drag pack on only to be running in junk air. So it never equalled the 11.10. 11.14 best and was having electrical issues with the trans shifting and the data logging. Did hit 122.85.

Figured that out, went back with the bigger rear DR's, and no skinnys and ran 11.14 again...... so I guess it's an 11.14 car this year. Again, not the best air. Was hooking w/o spinning though.

I doubt we will get another shot as winter came early, cold and wet. But, who knows......
