On my 97 Vette i Swapped on a set of ported 5.3 heads, , 228 something cam, long tubes, yank 3200, 3:42 gears and LS6 intake with drag radials. It an mid 11's spinning really hard half way down the track. I sold it 5 years ago and the guy has put many miles on it without any troubles. I took my time, made sure all surfaces were nice and clean. And tuned it myself with HP Tuners.
My 87 GN I had to change the valve springs, swap turbo, converter and exhaust. It is actually quicker than the vette.

I bought my car with most of the bolt ons already installed, dynoing at 346hp or so at the wheels. I added little stuff like a Volant CAI and smooth bellow..that's actually about it I think for 'power' mods. The first time I ever ran at a dragstrip, I had the cam already put in it, making the power it made now in sig BEFORE the 9". I ran a 13.3 at 108 or so. I had barely ever shifted the car fast, let alone run at a dragstrip, and never even street raced it.
Fast forward to now, I have a 9" with 3.90s and torque arm/all that, and Konis/Stranos (which hurt me more than help). I've been a best of 12.02 @ 118 with a low 1.7x 60ft - before that, 12.04 @ 115 with a higher 1.7x 60ft. I'm actually a bit confused on why it didn't back half better on the second pass, but alas. I've added no power to my car since the first time I ran it at a dragstrip. I've basically changed some suspension, more or less added weight, and gears, and shaved a full second and added 10mph with the biggest change being driver mod. I've tried drag radials, bias ply DOT tires, and now I'm on an ET Drag. 1/4 mile tracks aren't the best around here, but the last time I was at the strip, I blew out a front tire after running several 12.0x passes back to back. Maybe I would've got the 11 that day, maybe not. I'm still chasing it...I've got a set of 4.30 gears I could put in which would fix my shifting to fourth right at the end of the 1/4 problem, but I'm not sure I want to since I have bigger plans for the car towards the end of the year. I wanted to run 11s cam only...which doesn't seem like a huge deal, and with an auto I'd be close to 11.5s likely - but it's been quite a journey in my car.
I've learned a lot along the way and am happy with where my car is, but there's always that time you want to achieve just so you say you can.

11's is cake with bolt-ons these days. I helped a friend do it with 340whp and exhaust mani's on it. The car was a m6 camaro with 3.73, about 200lb of weight reduction which is easy on these cars. It had a custom intake tube, ported ls6 intake/tb, dumped exhaust , spec x-trim clutch, udp and was still on the stock tune minus the ap and egr turned off. It went 11.9 @116. 100% Stock suspension minus front bar.
My own car first drove into the 11's pretty easy to. I put the ls6 in it in 02. With a little tinkering in went 11.8 @ 119.8 at damn near full weight and no dr.....on 18's . Since then with more tinkering it dips onto the 10's. ....same basic engine.

Fast 92 Intake, Fast 92 TB, FTP 104 Lid, CHRS1313 NON A/C, front sway bar delete, took my 10" sub woofer enclosure out, took my A/C out.
Once the weather breaks I'm having New Era Performance make me a custom exhaust to free up another 10 RWHP

Don't bother with him, the car is full of hidden ****, cutting holes in every panel, etc. He's known for hiding mods and being full of bullshit. Yeah you can do 11s with bolt ons if you want, it's not out of the question. But you're right, it's not exactly simple with an M6 car.

My advice is get a new tuner. Why would you want a guy tuning your car that thinks that can't be done? **** that. I want a tuner to sweat when he's tuning my ****.......not this 3 pull **** and done. Try some **** and see what it wants. Last time my tuner and i worked on my car we made 12-15 pulls trying different ****....lol

Maybe you should open up your own business seeing you say "Running 11s is cake". I'm sure people would pay you good money if you tell them you can make their car an 11 second car easy.

Oh he puts his time in on the tunes. I'd put him up against any other tuner... Running 11s on my set up is going to be a challenge for me. Until I do heads and 4.30s the car is far from optimal and I'm ok with that. I went 3 times last summer and only got 3 passes each time. Still getting used to having a big cam.

Don't count on heads and 4.30s to get you there. You have other issues if you're not there now. No use in throwing heads on it......power is not the problem. ......no use in throwing gear at it cause that ain't the problem either.
With that comment it's easy to see the problem. It's you.
Most would rather talk about what cam they want rather than really look at what makes a car accelerate. After all drag racing is about acceleration. ....not how much power you make or what cam you run.
