to get into the 11's...

alright, i currently have a 03 cobra that runs consistant 11.6-11.7s all day long and walked a few Z06's with drag radials. i am currently selling it to lower my payment. (if anyone is interested?!?!)

i am looking for a 2000+ ss. what would it take to get the same performance out of the mighty ls1. i want to be able to do it with no NOS/turbo/super. that will be for the 10's. it will be my everyday driver just like my cobra was. i WANT a nasty cam. something when you here it, you know its not stock, but something that is possible for everyday and it wont be dieing all the times at idle, every now and then is OK.

and why are 80% of these cars A4's? i am going to be getting an M6. that is the t56 tranny right? good tranny, the same in my cobra. why is the majority a A4 with a big stall???

thanks for the info, and i cant wait to be converted BACK to a bowtie!!!

Get an '01 or '02 with an A4, headers with a cutout, a 4000 RPM stall, some drag radials, and a tune. This alone has netted several 11 second slips with a full weight car in decent air/track conditions. The nastiest of cams is the Thunder Racing TRex if you still want more. The stock rear-end usually doesn't have a problem living behind the A4 either. FYI, my 1998 with a 2800 stall and bolt-ons went 12.53 in shitty air. The 01-02's are stronger than previous years, plus if you add a better stall in the mix... well, you get the idea.

Most guys here drag race, which is why there are so many A4s. In GM's infinite wisdom, they continued using a 10 bolt rear for the LS1 F-bodies. A stock M6 with drag radials can snap one easily. I strayed from this route due primarily to this expensive obstacle to overcome (12 bolt or 9"), and also after reading about several issues with the hyd. clutch.

well, i am a big fan of m6's and will want to go that route. i have some expierience with rear ends as i snapped 2 half shafts at the track in my cobra. so i would plan on biulding a rear end for it.

what are the main differanes betwwen 01-02 and the rest. i know the 01-02's have the ls6 manifold, but i was unaware of any other changes.

and i am in so cal, so the air isnt that bad.

An A4 will get you into the 11s with the least amount of mods possible. If you want to go the tougher route, be my guest. ;)

once the rear end is built, will it be better at the track?

Main differences are the intake, cam, exhaust manifolds, and tune. More details can be found in jrp's sticky thread if you care to delve in. :)

The rear is the weakest link in the entire car. After you tackle it, I would say that the clutch with its hydraulic problems and driveshaft would come next. Once you get those out of the way, run through the bolt-ons, then add the cam and some suspension work, and you'll be in business.
