M6/10 bolt users inside
Hello- I'm wanting to talk to some m6/10 bolt owners who can tell me realistically what I should be launching at if i want to keep the 10 bolt alive. Im running the stocker 3.42 geared rear end.
460-490 at the wheels id guess, specs of motor are in the sig.
stock rims with ~ 285 mickey thompson wrinkle wall slick.
ive never raced this car on the strip so im not sure what to expect, or how nice to be to the car when changing gears. will I need to baby it? and also, if i ran a 265 nitto street tire to avoid breaking the rear, Will i have any chance of hooking up after first gear?

yea i would take those slicks off if u wanna drive ur car home. my 6spd. SS with 409rwhp ,was at the track on slicks last sunday and i broke on my first pass wit h some slipping of the clutch but the track prep was awesome . but i recomend some m/t radials i didnt brake when i had those on my car and ran 11.80 but my 60ft. were bad so i was trying to improve with slicks but like i said it went on my first pass.

The drivetrain shock from a dump is going to break the rear with a 10 bolt and slicks. I've only run nittos at the track, and keep my 60' in the 1.80-1.90 range with a fast release of the clutch. It hooks fine the rest of first gear. You'll just have to drive the car out instead of a dump which takes some practice to get a decent 60'. Next time I go I'm going to try some E.T. streets and see if I can make atleast one pass before I break.

So no clutch dump at all!?
dang... so what is this clutch slipping... do you mean that you would take the car up to 2 or 3 grand like you were going to launch it, then slip the clutch to lessen the blow of the launch? or just a hard takeoff from a stop

just side stepping the clutch is going to stress the driveshaft/rear greatly. By doing a slightly slower release, but still fast release of the clutch you take some of the shock from the drivetrain.

Iam going to the track on my 275/50/15 mickey thompson radials sunday and plan on letting it fly at 4000 or so. Ive tried the whole slipping thing and for me it doesnt work that well, especially with the ls7 clutch not liking to be slipped. Look at my sig for my times. That was with the M/Ts. I guess its really a make it or brake it type deal with the 10bolt, even more so with slicks.

lol i blew up my 10bolt on 245 50 16 sumitomo street tires after cutting 1.8-1.9 60's
another time i finished another 10bolt off on the street on m/t street radials (ring and pinion alllll chipped up) lol
http://videos.streetfire.net/video/8...bbf7c8924a.htm enjoy that video lol
Dumping the clutch is bad. slip it quickly. it can be done with whatever clutch you have. i slipped the clutch quickly, and my 10bolt made it to 80k miles before it shat the bed. at the time i was putting down 338/362 to the wheels, bolt ons and stock internals. bottom line, get a 12 bolt rear! the 10 bolt is a ticking time bomb!! the video in my sig is a good example on slipping it quickly. i couldve actually given it a lil more rpm out of the hole, she bogged a bit. i was on the moser 12 bolt there though
