I'm agreeing on the wrong piston and/or detonation.

Ive been thinking about this, and one other expirament comes to mind. Parish just did it. He can probably chime in, but he tried running 4 injectors in the base of the elbow, for idle and light duty street driving. I was in the middle of doing the same thing. I was going to run a wilson tb with the 8 injectors inthe base, then 8 more in the runners. Meth applications both. (yota)

Anyways, in the thread about the twin turbo 67 nova wagon , he explained terrible fuel distribution. So bad that even after trying deflectors to get better atomization, he still tossed in the towel and went to stacked injectors on the runner. When he stated the terrible idle issues, I immediately went to stacked injectops instead also.

In this case, carbed, yes the carb can be perfect, but that doesnt mean the intake will be all the time. It might be possible and even likely in this case that even with a safe tune, that one cylinder went lean and detonated.

The question is, who did the same thing........injected.

There are TONS of cars out there running blowthru carbs with no distribution problems......it is not a new idea. Gordon's (the guy who makes EV blowthru hats) personal motor is making 2100hp witha blowthru carb.

The problem with injectors at the throttle body is the angle in which they are pointed. Carbs fuel is discharged straight down.

Its weather it s carbed or not, but weather its carbed with the same intake? Are the others using the EXACT same intake?

Look at the turbo buicks, bad distribution problems, even though it took 15 years to find out. The real way to find out is put the intake, carb and hat that it uses on a flow bench. Measure each port than you know.

Are you going to tear it down and see if you have any problems with the block?

thats that i said a lot earlier.. maybe using an intake designed to flow air only but flushing a gallon of fuel through it during a pass, everythign doesn't get to where it needs to be.

sure a single afr meter after all 8 cyl could show up as ok... some cyl rich+ some lean = ok afr.

Maybe that cylinder was really fat compared to the rest? And maybe blew the top ring through the piston. You could run 8 egt probes and datalog the variances to see whats going on.

Looks to me like an EGT would have caught something like this. My knock sensors sucked once I put them on the side of the block.

I dont know man......how could we be right? I d bet the intake was just made, not designed at all. Do we even know what intake is on it? Or knock system? I havnt really been paying attention.

Flow the intake system........put together. Should cost a couple hundred bucks at most. And or 8 egt probes, or atleast two widebands. Technology, isnt it great.

Well this blows. No pun intended.I just bought Mahle pistons for my twin turbo403 and was planning on running 15#s.I never thought to look up what kind of alloy they were made of as I got a good deal on a rotating assembly. All balanced to.I need to decide whether to run these pistons or buy Wiesco.Did someone say that Mahle makes a 2618 alloy piston?Would they be ok for the street other then the noicey cold start?
Thanks

How the intake is setup. If 1 and 2 went sounds like you have an airflow distribution problem.

I know I'm no help....

but blazingfast, where are you located??? There's a really badass GTO in your bodystyle that I saw at greer (sc) the other day running similar numbers with a twin turbo LS2 setup.

regardless, hope you get it figured out and back up and running soon. Sounds like a great car.
