Default Finally got in the 12s, however something seems a little off to me

I finally broke into the 12s this past weekend. My 60' times were 1.75s and one pass was a 12.96 @ 101.82 and the other was a 12.89 @ 102.52. Shouldnt the trap speed and et be a little better? My cousin had his car out there as well and was running 13.7s with around 2.2 60s and was trapping 102-103.
Both cars are ls1 camaros, mine has a 230/227 cam, 3800 stall, and 4.10 gears with a 28" tall tire, my cousins is a bolt on car with 3.73 gears.

1/8...8.580
mph...85.32
1/4...13.197

Thanks for the response and the stats. I forgot to mention my cousins car is A4 as well. It was high 90s to low 100s yesterday, and our altitude is about 5000ft, could that be what it is?

Low 100s at 5k' is your problem, no doubt in my mind. I trapped 114 with the mods in my sig at 500' and 70 degree air if that tells you anything....DA can be a killer

Nice 60s btw!

Yeah that what had me confused is that my 60s are real good but it traps real low.

Trap still seems low for that DA, I was trapping 110-112 with similar conditions with just bolt-ons

I sort of feel like you have a little too tall of a tire with your gearing and power level. Even though youre an auto. Might try running on street tires once just for a trap speed or if you have some 26' slicks try that

My dad was thinking my tires may be too big as well. I will try running it on my street tires.

I have low trap speed also. I have all bolt ons plus a cam through a a4 in my 2001 trans am. I ran a 13.1 at 105 with a 2.00 60ft. I think I have slow trap speeds. I also have a 3500 stall.

its cause you are hooking. i run higher trap speed if i spin and dont hook. it bothered me aswell so i talked to some guys who have done this for awhile. they told me if you spin off the line it builds wheel speed so you have a higher trap speed. it will also lower your et most offten. on the other hand if you dead hook you have low wheel speed out of the hole so you have a better et and a lower trap speed.

im told automatic cars its faster et to dead hook but on manual cars you want a bit of wheel speed. i run a m6 and struggle with dead hook or completely spinning. havent found the middle ground.

hope it helps

to the OP, either youre at 8000 ft DA, or something is seriously wrong.... this is not a matter of "is my car a lil off, or seem a lil slow"?....if your car was BONE STOCK, I and everyone else would say youre car is waaaaaaaaaaay off or you reallyyyyy neeeeeeddd the driver mod...its DA, car, or driver....one of those 3 at least, maybe 2 of those 3....youre missing 20mph through the 1/4 mile...............even at 5000 ft, it seems way off

That may explain it for me then. My cousins car spun off the line every run, while my car would hook hard and go.

Our DA is regularly at 7500-8500, my car is A4 and I let it shift on its own so I dont think it can be a matter of needing the driver mod. As far as the car goes the converter locks and unlocks while driving on the highway so thats the only thing that I can figure thats on the car that can be hurting it, but I'm getting a new one soon since I'm changing up the combo a bit.
