Default Stuck in the 12.80s

Back in 2011 my 98 ran 12.85@107 with stock exhaust manifolds, I added headers and upgraded the valve springs but sold the car before running it again. Well I bought it back this summer and it ran 12.81@107. I got a mail order tune by Frost and put a lighter tire on the front , still running 12.80s @ 107. The air was not as good tonight but I expected some kind of improvement. The 60' foot times are all 1.8s .

I must be missing something, I figured that with the changes that were made it would be running at least 12.50s. Can anyone tell me what to do next?, or what to check at least. It is a basic bolt-on car . Thanks

What mods are done exactly, and what track are you running at? My times at Milan were always better it seemed

I was at Milan. The car has 3.73s, a Midwest 3000 rpm converter, lid ,Mac mid length headers, egr and cats are deleted. I boxed the lcas and added the relocation brackets .The exhaust is a 3 inch with a walker 6 inch round race muffler. I am using toyo drag radials and I am still learning what kind of burnout they need.

I left the line at a lower rpm and that seemed to work but the mph is still the same as it was with stock manifolds and tune. I was hoping for at least 109 mph but 107.2 is the best so far. I'm not sure what it weighs, I have'nt taken much out and I am about 285 so it's not a featherweight.

Thanks for the reply

I just ordered his tune for bolt-on cars. His website says the fuel and timing are adjusted, torque management adjusted and egr/air / o2s deleted. I am not sure where it's shifting, this was my second time at the track after four years and I am still too wired up to pay attention . Thanks

Were the d.a's somewhat comparable?
For example in the spring and fall the da here is around 500ft in which I run 12.3x-12.4x@110 mph
In the summer like right now my d.a's are 3000+ ft and I will run 12.6x@107
Something to look into maybe

For reference my buddy has a full bolt on and tuned 02 WS6 with stock stall, 3.23 gears, street tires, and with a 2.0 60ft he ran a 12.9 at 108 at Milan. The DA was around 1600 and around 60 degree temps

I'm not sure what the da was the first time back in July, I just found a site that tells you what it is and last night was 2500-3000. It was 10-12 degrees warmer and little more humid. My last pass was the best by .25 mph after the sun had gone down some and the temps dropped a little. The car was also cooled off after a 30 minute track cleanup and then when I got to the front of the line they stopped me and ran 4 lanes of fast cars 1 at a time.

I know it needs some more suspension work , I think the ta bushing may be shot.

I would like to thank everybody, I remember when I used to use this site there were too many guys that just said your stuff is junk and draining your bank account was the only way to go fast.

Also when it ran 12.80s with the stock manifolds and tune it was a great night in October. Nice cool air with no humidity.

My guess is this is what is going on. Run it in October again this year and I would guess you will pick up a few mph and a few tenths. Hot humid air murders n/a cars.
My car feels like such a absolute toilet on a 90 degree day with high humidity lol.
October is the perfect time to run for us up here and you can not make a fair comparison with one being in crisp fall air and the other being in wretched August air

To add to that, work on your 60' a bit and the rest will take care of itself. I think the majority of people get there best 60's flashing there converter as opposed to stalling it up.
Just my opinion but I don't think you will have a problem running a 12.4x@110mph in October with a decent 60'

I'm sure you are right about the weather. I think I am going to do some suspension upgrades and pull some weight out of it. I do have a glass hood that I bought the last time I owned this car. It's just been sitting in the barn for five years now. Thanks again

Keep at it. Cooler weather will help a bunch. It would be nice if you could play with your shift points to rule that out.

Nice times!

I do have the newer version hypertech to adjust shift points , I just have to pay attention to what it's doing now. I think I will move my scanmaster over right in front of me. The older you get the longer it takes your eyes to change focus and I'm afraid I've hit that point.

I also forgot that Frost says the ecm could take up to 100 miles to relearn some things. Milan drag way is 37 miles away so even driving there and back it has not hit 100 yet. It's possible that it still could be learning.

The cooler fall air is worth 3/10's.

The Toyos are a compromise tire, you get more wear than the MT's driving them around town but the MT's out hook them on the strip.

Are you using the scanmaster like a tach? If so, I'd recommend a shift light. One of the best things I've installed. I haven't looked at the tach for shift rpm in years. The shift light has saved my engine on the rare occasion when I've been afflicted with 'head up ***' also. Lol

I am using the scanmaster for a tach, I just set it on rpms. The shift light is a good idea but I leave it in drive , it shifts on its own.

I wanted to use BFG da's like I had before but no one had them. The toyos were over 50 dollars cheaper than any other tire so I thought I would try them.
They seem to drive decent and if I do my part they hook pretty good.

Thanks for the replys

I would say that time is about right. 98 and you didn't list an intake. My 2000 WS6 ran 12.75 with similar mods and an intake @ 1200ft DA.

I've used both BFG and Toyo dr's, and at the track the BFG did hook a little better but didnt handle or wear worth a damn
