Finally in 12's but a lot left on the table

I'm finding that dragging an M6 car is a lot more finicky than I ever imagined. Adding a line lock has removed a lot of stress from my burnouts, but trying to stay consistent with my launches, while not grenading my 10 bolt, is proving to be a real PITA.

I feel like I'm putting down plenty of power considering this has been a budget build the whole way. I'm around $6500 spent, including the car. I'm quite happy with the 114mph, but I feel like I'm at least a second slow with my ET.

My 60' sucks, but I'm not spinning. 3000rpm clutch dumps just bog(datalogs showed dropping to 700rpm). High rpm clutch, slipping launches smoke the clutch and lead to me grinding and missing my shifts. My best luck has been with 2000rpm and some minor slipping, like a aggressive stop light launch.

I'm thinking my 28" tire is killing me with the stock 3.42 rear. Am I pretty much screwed until I build myself a 8.8" with 4.10s? Is there anything else I can try until then?

I feel you man. I'm on about the same ratio, 3.42 & 27.7" tire, and it does suck. My best launch was about a 4k rpm slip launch. Bog rpm was about 1600-1700 rpm. Lol. That's the best I could get. You're right. It's either spin or burn the clutch lol. I also have a 383 lol.

Your car seems to move pretty good up top. Are you going through the traps in 3rd gear?

Those 28" tires are killing your 1/8 mile mph.

I agree with scotty2000ss the 28" tires are killing you. You need a 26" tire but first you need a rear that will handle high rpm launches. Next get a 2-step installed and you can set what ever rpm launch you want so you can be consistent. I have the MSD and love it. With your mods you should be launching at least around 5500. I leave at 5500 and shift at 5500 and the engine does bog quite a bit even at that rpm. I run a MWC 9"/3.89 gear with a spool and trap about 118 to 119 with a 26" tire. Weight of car with me about 3500.
First thing is to get a rear set up, then hammer on it.

I am trapping in 3rd with a few mph left to go. I would probably hit my limiter at 117.

I just picked up a new 3.90 gear set for $50 bucks. I know its playing with fire but I'm already leaving the line easy, so maybe it will be enough to shoot through the bog a little faster. I'm also going to put the car on a diet before I take it out again. Air pump, seats, jack and spare should add up to a decent chunk.

So much for saving up for a new rear. Started the car today, idled fine for 2-3 seconds, then violent shaking followed by a bang. Oil and chunks of aluminum on the ground. Well fuck, rod let loose and went right through the side of the block.

Time to start looking for an 6.0L...

Ouch! Sorry to hear that man!
