high 12's, minimal mods *keep in mind the car went 13.8 @ 101mph stock, so i gained ONE FULL SECOND and 5 mph from the modifications below. not too shabby imho. anyway- power mods- whisper lid, ftra (does nothing really imho but i have it...) transmission- ssf3500, transgo shift kit nitto 555r drag radials other- egr neck cut-off, thermostat w/fan switch, panhard rod. only weight reduction was spare/jack removed, and with the spare/jack the car was 3700lbs w/ me in it so i guess 3650 raceweight with me in the car. thats it, best time of 12.86@ 106.XX mph. that was with a 1.89 60ft (my best is a 1.79 and the car is usually consistent 1.80-1.84). before this day the car was going consistent 13.0's @ 104mph in 70-90* weather, in 50-60* weather it goes 106mph all day long. i believe with a better 60 ft. in the cooler weather is is capable of 12.7 territory but i have hp tuners on the way so im gonna wait to run it again. i also could not duplicate this 12.8 because of bad traction issues that night, which pissed me off because i like to be able to "back up" any run i do- the car did go 106mph all night though. *also- i have a huge torque management issue in the 1-2 shift (it completly looses power and holds up for a split second) and i have to manually shift 1-2 because it shifts at 5500rpms with HORRIBLE torque management/ timing pull if i let it shift itself. i hope that hp tuners will solve these issues and maybe free up a tenth from a good linear shift. |
Only track time was at Commerce a few weekends ago. Stock clutch didnt agree with the BFG Drag radials so i was dissapointed. Best run was a 12.82 @ 110.xx mph w/ 2.1 60ft |
Wow, those are some sweet times! Great job |
thanks. i was sooo depressed when my car went (stock) 13.8 @ 101mph, i was embarassed to tell anybody about it, but now im sort of happy the way the car runs besides the torque management issues and (of course) traction even with the nitto drag radials. the nittos are either hit or miss at a hard launch, meaning they either hook like crazy and i could have given it more gas/launched harder, or they burn the fuck off and i get a 2.2-2.4 60ft and run a 13.4 :bang:. i KNOW the car has more in it with a 1.80 or better 60 ft. hp tuners is getting shipped to me as we speak, can't wait.. - so what's up with my user status. it still says staging lane, i though it would say 12 second club? anybody? |
yup I know what you mean, my best stock was 107 @ 102. My friends 02z28-m6 waxed my ass at the track for a year he was running 13.1 with a catback. Well I install the headers/ory/rumbler and the 3500 tci. BAM 12.65 @ 106.25 2nd time at the track this year. Finally topped that 2 weeks ago with a 12.55 @ 107.3. I also have problems on the 1-2 and 2-3, I nail the rev limiter on the 1-2 HARD. And then hit on the 2-3 again, then right at the end of the 1/4 BANG as it shifts the last time the exhaust pops loud as hell, downshifting after the 1/4 the exhaust bangs one last time. :gruffy: |
i feel cheated- that 1.77 60ft. could/would make my 106mph trap a 12.6 :eyes: . i'll keep telling people my car is a 13.0 though, i like to sandbag  . good shit, how many people can say they are in the 12's with less hp than stock (i KNOW i lost alot of hp to the wheels with the 'verter and with only a lid i think i have less than stock to the wheels). i love it. hptuners monday (the scheduled ups arrival) and 3.42's in a couple of weeks- then sfc's and eventually torque arm and headers/cutout. i like to get the MAX out of any modification i did. if it is good for .10 i will make sure i see that tenth. i am definetly shooting for high-mid 11's with a cam-only setup, then comes the juice (that is the plan at least, we'll see what breaks in the meantime) |
Good times, My car is very similar, my best run before headers was 12.92@108 , ive since added headers and my new best run is a ..........12.92! I've since added a NOS 5177 100 hp kit and last night ran a 12.25@111. I only picked up 3 mph, but I think my fpss needs adjustment. I have a 98 a4 Z28 with free mods, ASP pulleys, headers(which I gained 0),ory,ported throttle body(which I gained 0 from),cutout, Nittos, maft, boxed lcas, relocation brackets. |
what ARE YOU DOING without a 'verter on that car? you would be well into the 11's with a 35-3800 stall. stop buying shit and save for a 'verter/shiftkit/transcooler setup like i have. |
I am a little leary of a verter so I dont start breaking rears and drive shafts or smoking my tranny, but I know eventually I will break down and get one. I know on the old tpi cars, me and a few of my friends had bad luck with torque converters- we always picked up on the 60 ft, but lost it in the shifts, but from what I see on here, the LS1's seem to be gaining with them. I will have one by next season. |

I ran a 12.905 @ 108.8 mph w/ only a lid, pulley, tru-duals, and mac mid-lengths!!! 2.73 gears, stock tranny w/ no stall, stock internals.....and a K&N!! I just placed the order for a Vigilante and 3.42's!! -gabe |
