Spinning into the 12's

Last Friday I raced at Maple Grove Raceway(Pennsylvania). I had no traction till the end of 2nd gear and ran a 12.875 at 117mph!

z28misfit Aug 8, 2006 04:05 PM

The guy I raced ran a 12.806 at 104mph. I think with my mph and traction high 11's to low 12's are possible. I don't know what everyone else on here thinks?

aNuBiS Aug 8, 2006 04:07 PM

Sounds like a high 11 with traction, to me.

z28misfit Aug 8, 2006 04:14 PM

I don't exactly know why I didn't get traction. I thought for sure with 12psi , my drag radials would have hooked.

2002LS1Z Aug 8, 2006 04:53 PM

I definetly think high 11's are possible. How bad was your 60 ft?

z28misfit Aug 8, 2006 04:55 PM

My 60' was 2.3 something. Don't know the exact numbers off the top of my head.

ScreaminRedZ Aug 8, 2006 07:02 PM

Definitely 11's. My best is 12.11 @ 115.5mph with a 1.80 60'. Before I hooked up well I ran a 12.17 @ 117.9 with a 2.05 60'. The loss of mph was due to weather and not power shifting, so I think with traction you'll get an easy 11!

Gauge Aug 9, 2006 09:48 AM

Yep, you should run 11's. Are you doing a good burnout? Maybe it's just terrible track prep.

what are your mods to run 117?
Nice numbers...
What are your mid track mph
i had 12.8 @113 with slipping clutch
and 2.3 60 ft
and 89 i believe for mid mph

Good work, yea if u can cut 4 tenths or a lil more in 60 ft they say every tenth in 60ft is worth 2 tenths in the 1/4 i have seen that with my timeslips very accurate

Not bad Duster. One of these weekends ill get up again and give u some of them new long tubes and 9* pulley. Ill give u a ring when i get up again.

I just ran last night at the track and my new time was 12.704@117.97 with a 2.2??60 foot.(once again i'm not sure on the exact 60' without my slip in front of me)
My current mods are stock block and heads with G5x4 cam
FAST 90/90
4.10 gears
slp 85mm mass air
slp air lid
slp loudmouth
Pacesetter race headers and ory
slp underdrive pulley
spec 3 clutch
and bfgoodrich g-force ta drag radials(295-35-18)

I was thinking of getting a set of Weld pro stars next year. I thought maybe with a smaller wheel and a bigger sidewall tire it might start to hook. I want to focus on my suspension and rear this winter though. Right now that's all stock.

Whitez406 Aug 13, 2006 08:55 PM

Let me get that rear when u pull it out i can use it. I got a set of m/t et street slicks sitting here if u need em.

RaNsOm Aug 14, 2006 12:39 PM

I would say thats too low PSI for a 18" drag radial. The tires are probably cupping and not getting a full contact patch. Dont go any lower than 16-18psi.

z28misfit Aug 14, 2006 01:35 PM

I figured I would try 12psi because the last time I had the tires way too high. I ended up getting so much wheel hop, I knocked the synchro out of third and knocked 6 teeth of my ring gear.

Whitez406 Aug 15, 2006 03:30 PM

I used to run my old ones at 16psi and do a decent burnout 1st and 2nd and let it come out of the water while spinning tires so it gets them hot yet gets all the water off. Thats how all the big guys said to do it. seems to work never had traction issues.

z28misfit Aug 15, 2006 04:22 PM

That's basically what I did. When I ran my 12.7 I didn't launch where I would like to launch at. I think I launched around 1200 or so.

z28misfit Aug 16, 2006 01:24 PM

What size tire were you running?

COMNBYU Aug 18, 2006 11:48 AM

One word, 12blt. Or 9". So I guess that's actually 2 words:)

117mph traps equivelate to 11.5's at least, with everything "right".
